Scotland meets end-2011/early-2012 - planning ahead

Given that we'd originally mentioned the final weekend in Oct for a meet, it's probably fair to keep it to that date. Plus it means ZermattV might actually be able to attend a meet in 2011

(sorry Nosa - actually not too sorry cos I'd rather be where you'll be!)

I've got a route of around 3.5hrs driving time / 140 miles in mind but need to plot it in Googlemaps before posting - I'll do that in a new thread so that we can keep this one for discussion for 2012 planning :)

He he no probs, it will stop Malc Bleating as well :poke:
And on the last weekend in October THIS is where I will be

Nosa, that looks too sedate for me mate! Seriously though, looks awesome and I'm not jealous. No siree. Not in the least. Lucky git :poke:

Folks, plan is for a final (driving) meet north of the Border on Sunday 30th October. I've got a short(ish) route in mind of around 135 miles but it's almost all non-multilane roads. I just need to check out the start/meeting location before posting it up - bascially want to ensure it's a suitable meeting place, i.e. has parking, no high speed bumps, and toilets... I'll post up a new thread about this meet after Saturday's recce.

:D

Just keep this thread going in the background for some planning for next year :driving:

Bump :D

Great run today! I'll put some thought towards a route that could do Angus and the Glens for early 2012.

Would a starting point north of the tay be an issue or put anyone off attending?

Enjoyed today's run - well done to Ally for another good route - especially the roller coaster section - great to meet old and new faces. No real problem for us starting a run north of the Tay, Adamski, well depending on how far north of - e.g. Iceland's maybe a touch far . . . .

Our pics are not great today - some good one's posted already though - might post some later....great to have some M's along and an attention diverting E89!

Anyone fancy the delayed Moffat Willy Wavers run around Christmas, New Year? Weather permitting of course.

Just thinking back to the Applecross talk yesterday, it's going to be a 4 and a bit hour run to there from Stirling services

googlemap

So setting off 9am ish, be there by 2 giving time for a break somewhere. The Applecross pass isn't a high speed run so we've most the afternoon to look about, set up camp somewhere and head back the next day via some interesting other route. (maybe across to Dingwall then down the Glenshee road?) Alternatively do two nights and the day in the middle do a run around the North Highlands (a sprint up to Cape Wrath & back, Navy bombing allowing).

For accommodation, I'm sure PH runs have used a place in Torridon (there's somewhere GetCarter usually recommends). A bit further North and there's definitely a place near Gairloch that my old man stays at with the diving club when doing the Western coast. There must be something at Kyle too?

Yeah, I can confirm you can do Applecross back to Stirling in approx 4.5hrs, but that doesn't leave time for the usual stop/chat/photo opportunities. Plus I also had a not-so-direct route in mind!

Two day camp up there would possibly work better then, somewhere close to Applecross where we can do a loop around that area.

As has been mentioned elswhere the Hooning season will be with us before we know it, We have the much anticipated Willy wavers at Moffat, and Really looking forward to this one.
Thought it may be time for those who have proposed Runs for this year might want to start getting some dates and routes together sooner rather than later so we can forward plan for the year.......

...............Just Sayin

Just in case that Applecross trip is on the cards again, have a google for the A890 and driving along the train tracks...

I hope they'll have some solution to the road closure by then, but perhaps not. Shame as it's a brilliant driving road too. If it's still likely to be closed then I'll need to have a rethink about a route as it'd quite a change to my proposed one...

Edit: just checked and distance-wise it's not a major difference, but it does mean the route would miss the A87 (road from Invergarry across towards Skye) which is just an epic road :(

Anyway, dates for a 2-nighter trip "up north": bank hol weekend at the start of May, Fri 4th - Sun 6th May. How does that sound provisionally? :!:
