Hi maxman, we stayed here 4 years and loved the cottage, the location and scotland. Been back to scotland every year since!
Look for 'Dubh Loch Cottage', set back from banks of loch lomond. Its on the usual cottage sites still and deserves the reviews. We did have their direct details but this is the email address from their FaceBook page. Lovely people to deal with... good luck

maxman, when you say ‘southern Scotland’ do you mean south of Glasgow and Edinburgh ie Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders or do you mean around or immediately north of Edinburgh and Glasgow?

Been to loads of places in Scotland as that's where my wife's family live. Ayrshire is nice and some of the beaches are beautiful. Culzean Castle is a place I enjoy visiting too.

Alternatively if you want to go East coast, we visited a place near Gullane last August and that seemed like a lovely place too. Again, lovely beach.

The further north you go, the more dramatic the landscape gets, but there's are some beautifully rugged areas of southern/central Scotland also.

I think this was outside Moffat somewhere.

Plenty of nice views too.

A bit north of Glasgow, but ideal for a day trip is Ben A'an. A nice walk up and you get a beautiful view at the top.

Could you be a bit more specific? East or West? Coast or country?
We are leaning to the east side, but that’s not to say I wouldn’t say no to the west as we are just looking for suggestions.

Thanks Ben

The area around Duns is lovely. plenty of quiet roads with some excellent driving ones, remember who grew up in Duns 8) You're not far from North Berwick or Edinburgh if you fancy a day out at the beach or seeing the city sights. Also the National Museum of Flight is close at East Fortune so you can sit in a Concorde :)

West coast the Galloway peninsula is lovely, anywhere round the Solway Firth is great, we had a few nice holidays near Kircudbright when the boys were small, lots of lovely beaches nearby and the Cream of Galloway centre is a good visit, especially if you like ice cream :)
