Schumacher & Alonso

Was quite delighted with that last corner shenanigans in Monaco this afternoon - shame the stewards have disagreed! Great move by Schuey to catch out Alonso, as far as I thought the whole idea of them no longer using the start/finish line for overtaking and painting a new line on the circuit was because they were meant to race from that new line. Obviously not... Seemed from what Ross Brawn said that the Safety Car was pulled in on the last lap, as opposed to the race finishing under the Safety Car. Doesn't spoil a terrific result by Webber though.

They explained it on the BBC , the rules say use the safety car line to restart racing except on the last lap, when the safety car will pull in but no overtaking is allowed.

I suppose it so so the pictures of the winner won't have them taking the chequered flag behind the safety car

Wow.. I believed Ferrari until I heard Braun.. then tbh I thought he made perfect sense.

I suspect an appeal and clarification of the rules, as that was in the end one of the best bits.

edit... I also think Schumacher probably didn't know about the rule, and Braun egged him on to do it on the radio. Don't like Schuey, love Braun 8)

edit2: muppet - shame, altho obviously clear then. That line of the rules should be a bit better worded methinks.

Revenge is sweet. Shame though as depending on what part of the rules you looked at, it did appear to be legal - two of the rules appear to contradict each other so I can see where Ross Brawn and Schumacher came from. 20 sec penalty is too harsh though...

I think the rules are clear and make complete sense - the safety car did not "come in" to allow racing, it came in as per the rules on how a race finshes under the safety car.

However, bit of stupid rule all the same - this sort of thing is exactly what F1 needs (not the controversy, but the chances to overtake).

I think he was perfectly within the rules. Alonzo was defending so he thought so.
Well, it was within part of the rules. Unfortunately it seems another part of the rules over-rode that part. Shame as I thought it was a great overtake: Alonso was definately defending and it wasn't as if he wasn't trying. good on Schuey for having a go though :)

Not really a great surprise though is it, that when there's a decent overtake in F1 it's quickly deemed illegal by the stewards!

Shame to penalise so much. Every other driver deemed they were racing from the safety car pulling in whitle line until the flag.

I guess if Shuey had been in the Ferarri then it woudl have been deemed and acceptable pass.
