Schrick camshafts and cam followers

Hi all,

Has anyone installed aftermarket cams and new followers in their S54? Can the job be done without removing the cylinder head in order to slide out the cam follower shafts?

Basically,Cams lift out,vanos off, chain and sprockets,put at tdc and remove cam caps,lift out cam.

I know the cams can be done in situ, it is the cam follower shafts I am unsure about as they need to be slid out from the front of the engine and I think the front panel etc will prevent that from happening :?

I think the followers can be done in situ, but it does require a fair chunk of the front end to be removed to slide the follower retaining 'posts' out of the front of the engine. Redish suggested they would be happy to try this with my car when looking at replacing the cams and followers, but in the end I elected to take the head off and do the head gasket whilst it was in bits...

I had to remove the whole front end on my E46 M3 to get the rods out.

When mine had camshafts/followers done at the dealer it was a front end off job like the E46 above.
