I am very well aware that this question has likely been answered at some point here, and other BMW forums make the search for a simple answer much harder than necessary. So, I apologize for re-hashing this but I just want a simple answer:
Is there a scan tool that provides all the functions I need for BMW (including battery reset) as well as being able to work on other makes/models? If it codes, that would be a plus but not a deal breaker.
So you know why I'm asking, I own two Fords in addition to my E89. Friends and family have an array of other cars I do work on. I have a Craftsman scan tool that works just fine with the Fords (and GMs, Hondas, Toyotas, etc.), but doesn't grab all the BMW-specific stuff - nor does it have the function to reset the battery. I looked into Bimmergeeks Protool but they said it will not work with other OBDII cars (only BMW, Rolls, Mini), so that's a bummer. I hear Carly is good, but I'm not ready to commit to a $100/year subscription. The Craftsman cost $260 new twelve years ago and is still going strong and it's great, but why have two scan tools if I can get by with one?
Kind regards,
Grumps
