Scan Tool

I am very well aware that this question has likely been answered at some point here, and other BMW forums make the search for a simple answer much harder than necessary. So, I apologize for re-hashing this but I just want a simple answer:

Is there a scan tool that provides all the functions I need for BMW (including battery reset) as well as being able to work on other makes/models? If it codes, that would be a plus but not a deal breaker.

So you know why I'm asking, I own two Fords in addition to my E89. Friends and family have an array of other cars I do work on. I have a Craftsman scan tool that works just fine with the Fords (and GMs, Hondas, Toyotas, etc.), but doesn't grab all the BMW-specific stuff - nor does it have the function to reset the battery. I looked into Bimmergeeks Protool but they said it will not work with other OBDII cars (only BMW, Rolls, Mini), so that's a bummer. I hear Carly is good, but I'm not ready to commit to a $100/year subscription. The Craftsman cost $260 new twelve years ago and is still going strong and it's great, but why have two scan tools if I can get by with one?

Kind regards,

If you want a scanner for all makes then look at the Tablet type scanners from Autel, TopDon or Launch, I went for the cheapest Tablet from Launch which covers just about every make of car worldwide, cost just under £300. Have been using Laptop BMW software INPA and BMW Scanner 1.4 for years on the Z3 and Z4 but wanted something less complicated to set up and use. Been very pleased with the performance from the Launch scanner especially its ability to carry out coding of modules.
Just for BMW's I also have a Creator 310+ handheld scanner which at circa £50 is quite a powerful diagnostic tool and handy to carry in the car.
The Launch tablet I have came with two years free updates after that a subscription is required annually however if you dont updtate the tablet will continue to function using its last updated files.

Thanks for your suggestion. I did look at both Launch and Autel, and they both look to be good options. The Launch is less expensive, so that is where I might go. Thanks, again.

Agree the Creator 310+. I have a number of scanners which work partially but failed to diagnose an issue with wheel speed sensors. Recommended on this forum to get the Creator 310 and it worked brilliantly.
