Scam- be aware

Hi all

A watch out for all- I can’t believe I nearly fell for this but thankfully didn’t.

I put a post up a while back looking for an e86 loom. Long shot but still worth a go.

Yesterday got a dm from a member who’s name LOOKED familiar-

Seeing as the ringing endorsement was from a forumite then what the heck it’s worth a try.

Should have twigged the email was a gmail.com address

Anyway of course the guy has a loom for me: £380 and only £27 posted

With a picture to prove it

It was too good to be true… something was telling me it wasn’t legit.

Of course it’s a scam- but I was surprised how easily I was trusting of the endorsement. The original messager has now left the forum and the chat

Be wary!

Can't see it making a difference TBH. If someone joins to scam, they will just post 5 random things instead of the previous 3.
I guess there is not a lot you (as admin) can do without getting references from employers for every new member.

Everyone needs to be vigilant. That's the only way to be safe.

Doesn't mean every forum member is automatically honest. Anybody can join this forum for free, it's not an exclusive club.

For example, I wouldn't trust me! ;)

I had the same message from the same member and reported it a couple of days ago. Not heard anything back - does the reporting function work?

Yes it does, but you don't always get a message on the back of the report. You should be able to see if your report is closed though (I think, not sure). Will check the logs and see what happened

... weird, I see lots of reports, but none from you
