Saying goodbye to the Z

Well, just taken a deposit on the car. Wasn't fussed about selling but my speculative advert has paid off. Buying at the start of the year was obviously a good thing to do.

Now the question is - what next? The coupe is really tempting me but then so is an Edition 30 Golf Gti. Guess it's time to get my thinking head on! :o

To be honest with you, and I know I'm biased; the Golf just won't compare to the Z4 Coupe. You'd soon get annoyed of being sat high up, in something that doesn't sound very good, whilst trying to explain to people that it's more than 'just a golf'.

X2 very well said

Golf. I ve never felt the need to explain the virtues of any car,if someone does nt know what the new GTI is all about... and the edition 30..... thats their problem IMO

I also feel itchy now after seeing a fully loaded 330i M sport. But I will miss the Z4's exhaust noise and low driving position if I change it. Or should I wait for the new Z4 in 2 years time?

Before I bought my Z4 in February, I did consider the VW Golf R32 though.

330 is nice, R32 Golf is OK. I really don't know what I want next, but its going to be a few years, I'm liking the Z4 more and more and don't want to change for now. LIkely next car would be a Z4M if its a change within a year - otherwise more likely is a new shape M3 or 911. Basically, once I've paid off the family car then it makes the fun car decisions a bit more, shall we say... fun!

That still doesn't take away the fact that it's sat high, is the 'old' shape now, and it doesn't sound good. This is coming from someone who changed over from a hot hatch with a 2.0T engine.

The coupe will date beautifully. I firmly believe that. I changed from my Astra VXR because it was only going to date horribly (not the only reason, obviously).

If you do end up with a Golf though, get the R32. Some people will tell you that the GTi is just as quick, etc... But the SOUND of the R32 will win you over!

I prefer the current 3-Series in Saloon to Coupe. I don't like the rear lights on the coupe. I love to have the M3 Saloon too.

I never think about buying any Porsche, I just don't like them.

I know what you mean about the 3 series coupe - vs - saloon. The saloon M3 is way way nicer than the coupe - prices are already in the mid-30s (ok, back to the mid 30's as they were there for a short while at the end of 2008), when they are in the mid-20s, they will truly be a bargain.

I used not to like Porsches at all - then I drove one and it just made me hanker after one. However, I have of late been having thought about getting something a bit more classic in the shape of a 356; however this will require a house move as it would need a garage - but would see that as a purchase for life.

However, all this talk is not to take away from the fact that I am really very happy with what I've got now!

Roll on Saturday, back to back test drives in the 3.0si then the M :D I didn't even know the dealer had the M in until I was on the phone.

Only hoping now they don't sell before Sat :driving:

That golf talk is rubbish IMHO. The ED30 and Pirelli editions are superb cars and much better day to day than the thirsty and over loud R32. I've had both the standard GTI and ED30 and test driven the new MkVI GTI and they're all truly superb. Personally, i'd get a Pirelli over the ED30 simply because they have been made in much lesser numbers and come with the newer touch screen nav/stereo that is amongst the best i've ever seen.

Or get an M of course!
