Saving for a Porsche boxter am I stupid?

The later Boxters are fine cars. The interior is light years better than an E85 and the S is plenty fast enough for most. Alas, having driven a few, I sit in the too good to be exciting camp, they leave me cold. I just like to be told to calm it once in a while, something the MR will tell you just before the hedge appears. :D :driving: :D
 
The Boxster is the next step for me. Upgrade to either the Spyder, 981S, or GTS when it comes out later this year. However, it's a big jump in value and it'll need to wait a few years. There doesn't seem to be much in-between sadly.

A 987 S is another league to any Z4 including an M. The poise and balance is outstanding and even in my M3 I don't have the brake balance or mid corner grip to keep up with a friend on our Welsh roads.
 
How funny, I've just decided to do the same. Sounds like I need to do a tonne of reading though.

This bearing issue, what engine/years are affected? (sum it up for me people) :D

I was looking at a 2005 or so 3.4 S?

1997-2008 models but not all, only a small percentage. Seems like there's been a massive deal made out of the possibility but, of course, if it happens to your car it is a massive deal.

I made sure I got one manufactured after '08 :D
 
These people based in Rushden seem to turn out nice prestige used cars and have a good reputation. I take it that this is a Gen 1 model? Is it value for money or overpriced? Some reviews say avoid tiptronic models.

The bearing was redesigned and improved for 06-08 and removed when the 987.2 came in.

The older Boxters seem not so attractive then, the newer ones linked above @ £35K look much more masculine, but that's over 2x a decent 2nd hand ZM...
 
Unless you go really old and buy one of the first 2.5s. That engine was bomb proof. The trade off is that it's slower than a wet bank holiday weekend stuck in a caravan in Dunoon.

I had the use of a Spider for a while shortly after release. It was my bosses car but he let me use it a few times to go to meetings. In the end he got sick of the stupid roof so he sold it. In terms of driving, I found it pretty tame and underwhelming. it did mean that if it hadn't been for the roof it would be an easy car to live with every day but the problem was that it never ever felt thrilling or scary.

Good to know and even more surprising that the values are holding up so well - the guys who bought them will have done well from the 5k premium of a std Boxter S.
 
i had a 987S 3.2 on an 05 plate. it was a great car, had more room than you'd think you could get way more in its cavernous front boot than i could ever hope to in my Z4. although my Z is an M so the battery eats into the space a lot.

good to drive sounded good. for me though it was a little too accomplished and lacked the sense of occasion you get from driving the Z.

I'd say do it, you can tick off owning a porsche from your bucket list... :)
 
I've been having the same conversation with myself for a few weeks now. Today I went to see a Z4MR and a 3.4s boxster.
This one won out in the end
