Hey Guys I decided that I want a porsche boxster 987 as my next car. Ive always liked the boxster since i was 8, dont get me wrong love my Z4.

I wont be buying one for at least 2 years as I like to buy my cars out right as i cant stand oweing anyone anything.

There are a few things which does put me off:
-its a girls car (but i like it too)
-Storage space isnt great
-Early models had engine issues

Also I want it in cobalt blue.

So am I mad or stupid for wanting a Porsche?

Thanks

Deffo a bit girlie, not as quick either.... hehe Still apparently handles well though so they say on top gear. There is a yellow one for sale in the village here for £8K, very hairdresser... Ohhh and soundtrack not so good...

Cobalt blue is a great colour. Boxster as much as I hate to admit it is probably the best car in the Porsche lineup but like the Cayman it just does nothing for me. 911 is mote my cup of tea.

Go for it, If it's your dream then make sure you get one, you will regret it if you don't. Never look back and wished you had 8)

I drove one before I brought my Z, was amazed how slow it was and the inside was so dated. It was only the 2.7 thou.!!!! Was going to try the S but then started seeing all the problems with one of the bearing in the engine and got scared of.
Seen somewhere that a indi garage in London averaged 2 cars in a week with said problem which resulted in a 5k engine rebuild.

Run away lol

Boxster S .... the 3.4 litre , with a new version IMS bearing or a newer model without the IMS issue in Cobalt blue (my fave colour) would be an excellent car....

You got my vote

ask Carol what she thinks

Go for it, i dont think they are any more 'girlie' than Z4's.

Just try get a 987.2 or factor in another £1.2k for a bearing upgrade.

Chase your dream,s mate , we all need target.s to aim for or we,d just be drifter,s 8)
Meanwhile enjoy what you have

Go for it if that's what you want - better handling and good looks in my view - I would only settle for an S though despite higher running costs , higher tax band etc for later models . TBH I would have one if I could fit in it  Perhaps this is why they're more suited for a girl .

too tall ?

I'm with you on this one OP - I love the Boxster S 987 Gen 2 which does not suffer the IMS failures of early models - also offers the PDK which I fancy but know the manual is good too. I don't think for a minute it's a (typical) girl's only car and the poor man Porsche tag is surely confined to history ( do wish some people would come up with some original quotes/comments - not getting at anyone on the forum mind).

Most reports seem to say it's a proper mid engined driver's car and with both front and back "boots" storage seems reasonable though probably not on a par with the Z4 (E85).

I REALLY love the newest Boxster (981) but those are still pretty pricy and I can accept you could buy a decent 911 for same cash BUT much as I love the 911 and all it stands for (the Stuttgart museum convinced me of that) I think I prefer the proper roadster set up of the Boxster. Defo think the S is worth the extra if you can manage - on a par performance wise with the (great value)Z4MR.

Good luck.

So giving the Boxter serious thought Jax - at the moment the only thing I've identified to replace the M is the Boxter Spyder ( I liked that red one we saw at Glamis - but there still high 30k for a 10/11 Model for very similar performance to the M plus there is the inconvenient roof.

Yeah indeed but it is much more of a commitment for a weekend / holiday only car when Mrs Jax probably needs to replace hers if NHS withdraw her leased TT. I do have to admit the Zed has hardly been out much for months. I just don't think that Spyder roof would be terribly workable - just think of the forum runs we have had when the roofs have (necessarily) been up and down like an old joke ? It did look the business though - again less storage space !

Looks lovely but makes an MR look unbelievable value for Money

The Black 987 looks absolutely stunning. I am liking that
Had a drive of a 2.7 gen II last year and was impressed how easy it was to drive quickly. It was so sure footed and needed minimal correction whilst driving that I started to wonder what I needed to do to get it to 'protest'.
I thought the performance on the 2.7 was pretty impressive also.

My brother had a 2.7 boxster, IMO it's a better car than the Z4, better handling, more composed, nicer cabin, plenty quick enough and most of all, good fun to drive.

Doesn't of course make the Z4 a bad car by any means, I've had mine almost 4 years with no plans to sell.

The only one of the above I would dispute is Cabin - never been a fan tbh . I also find the Std car too numerous but I guess that's because it's good.
