My insurance reminder came through for my Z4 a while ago from directline
'You do not need to do anything - it will automatically renew' cost £650
Went online and paid £485 for the same cover

Just done the same with my Lexus RX300
Reminder = £365
Online = £265

What a con!!!!
Anything that says 'you do not need to do anything' means exactly the opposite!

My renewal came through at 40% more than last year, and all the ones I've found online so far have either been higher (£1200 or so), or higher with huge excesses (£3000 excess).

I started a similar thread recently about my insurers decision to automatically renew my premium at 43% more than the previous year, with no change in my circumstances.

They did this auto renewal thing to me once before, a few years ago (suddenly with no warning), .. I had actually left the country for work and they made one of my empty bank accounts £600 overdrawn by taking a payment for insurance of a car I had long since sold. Now that I'm back,..and with that experience in mind I specifically instructed them that I would never want to auto-renew and so they sent me a letter every year 'reminding me to renew' for the last three years or so,... then suddenly this year,..having hiked my premium by 40%+ they suddenly decided I would want to auto renew....

Disgraceful.

I just had my auto renewal so i thought ill go on to compare the market and check there was plenty cheeper .

Never accept it,get a better quote make sure its like for like get them to match it then tell them to stick it and go with the company who gave you the better quote in the first place, if more people did this then thay may stop trying to rip people off.

The same goes with tyres why oh why do they all say if you get a better price come back and will match it , just give me your bl**dy best price in the first place :x . its simple the company who gives me the best price in the first instant gets my business, after hagling a bit more off, well you have to try dont you.

Rant over.......... :)

Yeah I'm with Diamond and they sent me a letter about Auto Renewal saying that I didn't need to do anything unless I wanted to make changes. They were saying they would take £1500 from my account on such and such a date, which was exactly the same as I had paid the year before. So I went online and got a quote as a new customer, it was about £1220 if I remember rightly. (Still better than anybody else!) So I phoned them and told them that I wasn't impressed, and they honoured the online quote :)

mrs gannets renewal price with Bell £571....

confused.com quote: £314 with less excess with admiral

Bell and Admiral are both part of the Admiral Group - go figure... Havent phoned Bell yet :headbang: same happened last year :roll:

Interestingly my experience with elephant recently was the exact opposite.

I'd had quotes via confused.com several times over the month leading up to my renewal, and when my renewal letter came the price was quite a lot LESS then any of the quotes I had as a new customer (including elephant / bell / admiral), so needless to say I was pretty happy.
