SATNAV software upgrade?

Hi - does anyone know where I might find a definitive "how to" on upgrading my SATNAV software (OEM SATNAV) (preferably download then burn format) and what features I am missing out on (currently have as far as I'm aware the 2003 software which doesn't have camera locations)?

I've done a search but can't find anything that gives a good overview as I know jack sh*t about it at the moment. Thanks.

That should have everything you need.

Meant to ask - any idea about updating the map software (and anyone know if/what version adds traffic camera locations????), couldn't find anything about that on these sites? Thanks.

Not possible with any OEM map disc. You need a program like "Pimp My Nav" http://pimp-my-nav.com/ which allows you to take an OEM map disc and merge with camera locations from say http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/ and burn a new disc for use in your car.

Works a treat, only thing you have to do is make it an active POI, only issue is there are no audible warnings.

Ahh, didn't realise that - can't belive they don't make map software with camera data, that sucks!

Does anyone know if it's just a case of downloading the new map software (I thnk you know the kind of site I'm talking about) and buring it to disc? If so do I burn it as a data disc, ISO or what? Ta.

Motto - just to be clear as it confuses many, the OS system has nothing to do with cameras and maps. The only real benefit in upgrading OS is if you already have a very old version and the new has 3D perspective. All other POI, of which cameras are added as an extra database, is in the map DVD.

I've upgraded my sat nav to include 3d perspective but I'd like to have an 'M' splash screen and have the option to have it displayed when the screens up but radio is off. Anyone done this, I've looked at some of the X5site sat nav upgrades but it all gets complicated very quickly!!

Yes - I went through a phase of changing anything and everything on the maps from splash screens to colour of the sky added a mountain range in the background and 3d direction pointer. Got bored of opening ISO files, burning DVD's only to find it was no longer a stable map. All you need in on X5 world and if you search splash screens you'll find one you want. It's not so much complicated as a tedious process.

nope.. splash screens are the OS DVD.

don't think you'll get it to display the logo apart from when it first boots though. I changed mine, but I'm going to change it again soon as I've moved house and the picture isn't relevant any more

Yip I'm with you, I want to upgrade both as my OS software is ancient (v21.1 I think) and the maps must be of the same era. I'm going to attempt both upgrades and see if they work and then look in to cameras, don't suppose there are any how to's on how to go about adding the cameras to the map software are there?

2 other things - will I need any product keys etc and are there any issues with different versions i.e. UK vs US??

Thanks for the info. I'll have a look at the DVD that I used to upgrade with. But if you can't set the nav screen to show the splash screen for longer it hardly seems worth the effort :(

Motto - IIRC there's a how to add speed cameras as POI on X5 world. No product keys required and OS is same in UK and US. Maps are whre the differences are.

SammyZ - have to agree. It's one of those things some of the guys really enjoy doing but has only a few seconds appeal when starting up from a cold boot.

Motto from memory CJ10jeeper is correct about the how to... but from meory it's fairly involved which is why I went for the Pimp my nav option which is like a walk in the part, and only £20 from memory

Good point SR - never looked at the Pimp My Nav software. Will have a look as the process of opening ISO files editting bits of it , recompiling it and then burning is so involved, unless you are a natural techie.

sorry.. i meant to say OS CD, not DVD... the upgrade image is quite small.

And I agree it's a shame you can't leave it up, but for people who haven't got in your car, seeing the screen flip up is pretty cool.. so to then see a different pic for a few seconds after really catches attention
