Satnav mount

I'm looking for an elegant way of mounting my Tomtom ONE XL in the Z4, including the RDS TMC receiver. The GPS end is reasonably easy -- both the Brodit and the Carcomm mounts for the ONE XL look to be good options. However, the actual attachment to the car is a little more difficult...

There are Brodit Proclip mounts available, but they're all too low. You can get ones that go either side of the transmission tunnel, or one that goes under the stereo, either to the left or right of the heating controls. I'd really like it to sit on top of the dash, either in the middle or over by the A-pillar. But I'm not too keen on the windscreen suction mounts. I can actually sucker the windscreen mount to the piano finish dashboard, but the only bits that are big enough to accommodate the sucker result in it being in a poor position.

Anyone got a good GPS install in their Z4 (apart from the OEM BMW of course)? Pics and details would be useful.

No Pics, but having broken the windscreen mount I was forced to look for an alternative late last year. Ended up with one that clips onto the air vent - cost me about £12 off ebay.

I have the TomTom ONE v1 model.

Ill try and arrange some pictures for you.

carl,

Sorry for the delay in getting these photos arranged...

Hope this helps.

shipkiller,

I did consider that option, but it was way more expensive and I thought the result was too low - have to look too far down for directions...

just my opinion of course :)

The problem with the proclips is that the mounting positions available in the Z4 all suck. You can have either side of the air controls (like you have) or either side of the gear stick. They really need to provide one that sits up higher, either to the side of the CD player or the air vents.

I may try the vent mount though.
