Wish I'd seen this before... I've just bought a portable BMW Navi plus unit for Mrs Lozzer's X3, plus the pod for the dash. The Z4 unit is the same one as the X3 apparently, so could have kept it OEM

The X3 one is different so it wouldn't have helped.

The X3 one is different so it wouldn't have helped.

What a different about it? I haven't seen one in an X3, but the replacement casing I bought to mount the Nuvi (in place of the dash-top cubby) is exactly the same size and shape as the sat nav unit in my zed... so is it the nav unit itself that is different?

The mount ie the bit that attaches to the dash is slightly different on the X3 one. It's also said though I can't confirm that the default viewing angle is different.

Ah... so the other way round, a Z4 item would be too small for the X3. I think I'm going to re-measure the parts that came for the X3 in case they've sent the wrong ones...

The Z4 one has a lip at the front that bends down where as the X3 is straight but has what looks like another bit underneath.
