Satellite Navigation Upgrade

Hi,

I drive a 2012 Z4 with an integrated Sat Nav system. The current version shows it to be a '2012 European Premium'.

I've contacted BMW and they've quoted a price of £109 for the upgrade which I think is quite expensive.

Does anyone know of a trusted location that sells upgrades? I've found a place called [removed] and they seem to provide the latest version including the relevant code.

Does anyone have experience of using this site or know of other places i could try? Lastly, when upgrading do I have to renew my ConnectedDrive subscription?

Would appreciate any help and advice.

Thanks.

You don't have to have a ConnectedDrive subscription to upgrade or use the new navigation version. Only if you want the real time traffic information.

Is it really that necessary to upgrade?
I don't want to sound flippant but significant new roads tend to be major roads and its only points of interest that might be of use.

I'd only expect to use the satellite navigation when in an unfamiliar place, at which point I'd rather know it was up to date.

It's always going to be out of date tho - the mapping to digital format is always behind the real world .

On an out of date system it might show that you are driving in the middle of a field when headed down a re routed section of the A1 - but Grantham hasn't moved.

It's updated every 6 months. Better to only be missing new roads from the last 6 months than the last 5 years.

If you're using it for business purposes I agree with you that it could be important - but as a social domestic and pleasure user it's never caught me out either at home or abroad.

My five year old disk got me down through the Netherlands and Germany last year without a hiccup. I think the Poi's are the most likely changes but if you have Connected Drive Concierge services what does it matter?

I use my nav quite often since the Z is my only car and does a good few work trips. It's more OCD that drives me to keep it updated though :D

Don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer in keeping software up to date but two systems to keep up to date and very low miles between them, my pragmatic nature comes to the fore !

Hi,

I had mine upgraded just before Christmas.... It had not been done sice 2010 the bigest (best?) change that
I noticed was that I now have the option to put the full 7 digit postcode (previously only 5)....
