Where is the best place to get an update for the Sat Nav? Is there any other benefits of an update aside from updated maps?

Tehre are 2 sorts of updates:

Map discs are only legally available from BMW and of course give latest routes, etc.

OS discs can be created freely from downloads from many sites such as outpost.com
Updating the OS give more functionality such as 3D maps and some minor bug fixes, all depending upon what version you have now.

Add speed camera locations and 7 digit postcodes with that. The illegal discs tend to crash the system tho.

That sounds good, so where do you get those from? Or how?

The OS (firmware) disc does not contain the speed cams or postcode POIs - those elements are only found on the dodgy map discs (or ones you've customised yourself).

Don't forget that most speedcam warning databases are updated daily/weekly, so whichever speedcam database you burn into your map will potentially be incorrect a week later and you'd have to burn another map disc to stay up to date.

I was meaning the discs you buy illegally come with the firmware and the maps with those options, and that they crash so its not worth it.

So you can't get an update from BMW that includes 7 digit postcode search and speed camera alerts?

Keep an eye out on Ebay. I got a genuine 2011 DVD for less than £20 second hand, they come up every now and again.

I'm not bothered about speed cameras or post code input, it always gets me where i need to go with just the street name. I find without the speed camera warnings (which i had on my Tom Tom) i'm much more aware of the speed I'm travelling, which is a good thing in my opinion.

Andrew.
