sat nav screen

Is my screen starting to fail? When I turn the ignition the screen should always pop up shouldnt it? From time to time however it doesnt, so I end up pressing the button on the right to flip it up. There does not seem to be a patten to this from what I can tell. It always goes down when I turn the ignition off. Am I missing something really obvious or is the screen not working as it should? Anyone else had this problem?

i have the same - to be honest i prefer it stays down by default on starting the engine, less wear on the nav motor

PS another annoying issue is when i drop the screen and then i change a track on the ipod / cd and the screen automatically flips up :headbang: anyone know how to prevent this?

i think its supposed to happen that way, if you don't use the screen for a drive or 2 then it stays down by default. However like ranski said every time you change track it pops back up again, id like it to stay down as i don't need sat nav on most drives and the cd track display is pretty useless

but to answer your question i think screen staying down is normal, nothing to worry about

i had sat nav in my mazda a few years back, my thoughts were the same, i would have prefered it to stay down unless i wanted it up - less wear on the nav motor

This drives me mad too. Bloody thing!

I'm not sure but it might be if it was down when you switched off, it'll stay down if you switch on with the same key. Some key memory functions can't be turned off I believe. Could be wrong but....

I thought it was a fault - at least that's what pvr told me! :poke:

ah, but that was different. Yours was not fully opening though rather then not opening at all? I.e. you pressed the button and it would not move?

Ah no sorry - sometimes (1 in 10) it just doesn't open at all. If I press the button then it does open fully.

But I never have it closed, so I don't think it's anything to do with remembering the last position?....

That is weird, mine is never closed and opens each time when I turn the key.

Does yours make any attempt to open when you just turn the key?

I still maintain yours is faulty if you never manually close it, which is what the OP here was doing.
