Sat Nav question

Good Morning :)

I've got an odd fault and thought I'd ask if anyone has suffered this. My Sat Nav recently decided it didn't have a clue where the car was. I thought "Meh, it's having an off day" and duly ignored it and the next day it was fine, but know its cluelessness has returned and has stayed for the last 3 days :headbang: .

Has anyone else suffered this?

I look at the Map and it thinks I'm literally 50 miles away from where I actually am.

Any tips greatly received :)

my m3 did the same and i disconnected the battery and left the car overnight to hard reboot the system, i wouldn't recommend doing this on your car because it can sometimes reset the car into a thing called transport mode which is a ballache to get out of.

I hope this might be food for thought though
 
Reset it by removing negative lead from battery for a few minutes.

If that does not work, replace the GPS aerial for a tenner from eBay.
 
i have the same issure now and then. I live near the ocean and there are days when the NAV system has be driving out in the water, then the next day all is well again. My guess is the system is not picking up enough satelites to show as accurate location. I've noticed that there are times when my boats hand held GPS will only pick up a couple satelites and then four or five will show up on the screen. I'm thinking it's an antenna problem but that's just a WAG:)
 
I had the same problem after hitting a pothole.

Clear indication of a faulty GPS antenna is when looking at the screen, the icon in the top right is showing a globe but no or only a few dots around it (indication of none or not enough satellite fixes) and it doesn't say GPS underneath the globe.

GPS antenna was shot so got a replacement off ebay for £10 and since then has worked fine.

Just on an off chance, go into the hidden menu (think you hold select for 10 seconds) and there will be a setting called "Almanac" and it will either say "Yes" or No" if it says no buy you have sufficient GPS fixes and GPS symbol is showing under the globe, it means that the system it has lost its stored position from the GPS fix so basically the system has lost it bearings. This feature compensates for when you are in low signal or no signal areas as it will keep your position on the map till you are back in signal. Again as my antenna was shot, it would find the road I was on with great difficulty and then show me as on a totally different road when turning.

To reload the Almanac (after replacing antenna as that probably is the cause) park the car in clear view of the sky and turn on and after a while check the hidden menu and "almananc" setting should read "yes" again.
