Sat nav problem..

Z4M-2006

Elite
 High Peak,Derbyshire.
My sat nave has been fine and used it on a few occasions recently..

I have the screen set on split so GPS is always displayed ..

Today i noticed that side of the screen was blank,so i went into navigation section and the screen was blank with "please wait a moment" in the top corner...
I waited a while and then ejected the CD from the DVD drive and cleaned it(was really grubby ??)...
Still no luck though...

The power light is glowing red on the unit and i can hear the dvd drive booting and spinning when i re enter the disc..Disc is original 2006-1 btw...

Any idea's chaps ?

might try disconnecting the battery for 15 mins or so, that usually clears most nav problems, mine decided to speak in french to me for no reason at all,and that was the only thing that cleared it

Mine does/did similar, randomly (and other random tricks) and is why I don't rely on it.

All genuine discs too - although I've not updated them since 2010 as it doesn't seem to be worth it if I can't guarantee it's going to work.

Try another disc first before panicking, especially if you have one from [link removed]. If the disc was dirty it's possible the laser has dust on it also. That's a pita to sort but possible, as is a laser replacement if you have no warranty. Plenty of online guides for that if you're competent with a soldering iron

What I have also found out may help is (re-)installing a clean version of the (newest V32) firmware, especially if you have posisbly installed firmware before with some 'nice extras' such as speeding cams, fast forod locations and the likes. For certain systems these extras simply become to much and switching back to an original BMW version (such as V 32.0) then might do the trick for your system as it did for mine ...

Just an update....

The sat nav actually came back on without doing anything...The next day it was fine..

Since i bought a V32 update disc and 2012 software disc.Loaded it all up last night and all great..Speed cams and 7 digit postcode search too.
