From memory:

activate the bluetooth search funtion on your phone
key in ignition turn to position 1
press the button in the flip down centre console for about 5 seconds
car should appear in the list of discovered devices
enter pin code and voila

Yeah matt thats right sat nav pro - bluetooth prep. - ive made my phone discoverable etc, and tried holding down various buttons so far - but the phone has never discovered the car. I havent tried holding down the button in the flip down console yet though - isnt that the same button as the "talk" button on the steering wheel? Ive tried that one....

No, you MUST use the one on the flip down console.

You also need the cars bluetooth passcode - which should be in your manual pack, along with the instructions ;)

Yeah the muppets at the garage have given me the instuction book for the normal radio - not the one with sat nav... and ive already managed to find the passcode for the car.

Theyve already sent me another book pack from BMW but it STILL doesnt have the right instructions in it... bit sick of dealing with them now.

:headbang:

Here's what you do...

1) Get in the car :D

2) Have your phone ready to search for new bluetooth devices but don't perform the search yet

3) Open the centre console

4) Now for the tricky bit ..... Turn the key to position 1 (where the flip up screen opens) WHILST ALSO holding the wee button in the console

5) The screen should open in telephone mode and say "Bluetooth Pairing"

6) Make your phone search, it will discover BMW25273 or similar

7) Enter passcode

8) Wait for a few minutes while the phonebook is uploaded (works with most phones)

9) Enjoy!!

Cheers guys ill try both those methods - i do have the book with the phone box ont eh front - but the instructions inside only apply to the radio with its own LCD display - not the sat nav equiped Z4.

Fngers crossed - i'll post back once ive tried it after dinner.

Right - ive got a sony ericsson W800i - tried your advice and got my phone to see the car "unknown device". Put in the bluetooth code that the garage gave me and the phone just says "connection failed" or words to that effect.

Maybe i should "add handsfree device" from the phone rather than just "add device".

Its progress anyway!

My Manual suggests you should hold the centre console button down for 3 seconds, then turn the key to position 1 whilst keeping the button pressed for a further 3 seconds, when you release it, the screen should say 'Pairing Devices'. Your phone should then find it and key into your phone the passkey from the card supplied with the car. If you don't have the passkey card, you won't get it to work.

Yeah i tried the passcode the garage gave me - and your advice... see above. Actually my phones a W880i...

Must be doing somethign wrong with the phone i expect.

my old w880i paired fine, as does the c902, from memory and current phone I just went into 'My devices' under bluetooth and selected 'New Device' and searched and it found the car... entered Passcode and all was well.

What year car have you got?

its a 57 plate z4m coupe... wonder if the garage have given me the wrong car passcode... they said theyd had to reset if because they lost the card with it on.... ffs

:headbang:

Have read that the passcode is also on the ULF module itself - on the firewall of the boot underneath the carpet...

57 plate should be ok I'd of thought - mines an 04!

All sorted thanks guys! Just worked straight away... dunno what i messed up the last time i tried. Quality is prettyu good too!
