Sat Nav memory problems

Hi all,

Has anyone ever experienced the Mk4 sat nav unit loosing all its memory settings after ignition switch off?

If I stop at the services and come back to the car, its forgot all my saved destinations and settings such as split screen, scale etc.

What is even strangerr is that the previous owvers addresses come back even though I deleted them. Its like the flash memory in the sat nav refuses to be overwritten.

Ive checked the permanent live feed going to the unit and its fine.

Thanks

Andy

Do you have anything plugged in like an Intravee that could change settings?

I don't know if the Nav computer uses non volatile memory, or battery backup

Hi, nothing plugged in (that I know of).

I think the Nav uses non volatile memory. A random google search result said, that upon shut down, the unit should transfer the settings etc from the RAM to the flash memory - which mine doesnt seem to be doing.

Any decent nvram device fails read only. It might be that you've got a memory fault in the Nav computer and its gone into fail safe. I don't know if INPA etc has the capability to diagnose the Nav computer. Anyone else know?

I would flash the firmware with the latest version, or disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to perform a full reset.

Do the reset first! If you've got a failing nvram module you run the risk of bricking the unit.

Do you know what f/w revision you have loaded?

Thanks for the replies guys,

Things Ive done so far are:

Tested the permanent live feed to the Nav
Tested the continuity across the pins on the Nav
Disconnected the battery
Updated the firmware to V32

Firmware update was a mistake as now it defaults into 'night mode' which is aweful to look at. I now need to get hold of a earlier version of the firmware to get rid of night mode. Anyone have a cd with an earlier version?

Llooks like the unit is faulty. Is resetting the unit the same as disconnecting the battery? If not, how do I reset?

Thanks again

Andy
