Sat Nav issue

Hi all

Just taken delivery of a new G29 Z4 2.0i sport which I have to say is cosmically better than my old e89. However, I’m getting a problem with the satnav which keeps cutting in and out and saying that it is ‘loading content.’

It’s booked back in to the dealer this Friday but I just wondered if anyone knew what might be causing this?

Cheers in advance!

Welcome to the forum. :) Would be great to here a comparison post, E89 Vs G29, when you get a chance.

At a guess I would say it's struggling to read the disk. Clean the disk with fairy liquid and your fingers and water. Nothing else. If that don't work get a cleaning disk

Disc? Think you’ll find they are solid state these days

Actually, I think it’s still a good old fashion mechanical hard drive, just like in the previous Z4.

All off hard drive these days, A friend of mine had this problem with his Audi, the problem there was the maps weren't loaded properly (or corrupt data), so they had to re install them, fine ever since

I’d still bet the he’d is solid state these days. Would be crazy not to be.

Look at the Infotainment PDF in this thread:
https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1585744

Page 6 talks about a hard disk (as opposed to SSD) and the following page has the picture of a mechanical hard disk. Maybe it’s just a translation error, and maybe the picture is just for illustration, but... well, I wouldn’t bet anything significant!

It's academic for me, the BMW satnav is crap frankly, mine works and it's crap, thank God for Tom Tom...
But our sat navs are a 16 year old system, I'm sure they've come a long way since 2003 :poke:
Although Google maps/waze seems to be the best

Hmm, I'm getting the same model, arrives mid-May.

I'll look out for the satnav problem although hopefully you will have solved it by then. It does sound like it's loading map data from the hard drive. The E89's had a mechanical hard drive, maybe the new one has SSD in which case it should many times faster.

I had 2 E89's with satnav and never had any any problems.

The dealer rebooted the idrive which seems to have sorted it but they also noted there was a fault with a sensor (the name escapes me) which provides speed limit info onto the main instrument panel and the thought was this is linked to the satnav which makes sense I guess. That is on order from Germany and will be replaced when it arrives. No real issue since the reboot though fingers crossed!

You’ll love the car btw! It’s immense!!

Yeah, counting off the days to the new zed. I had a test drive in a new Msport 2.0, great feel to it but the ride a little hard as one would expect with Msport suspension. I also find the Msport body styling a little exaggerated and prefer the more subtle lines of the Sport model.
