Can anybody confirm for me that this is a sat nav sensor /antenna problem.
My sat nav just isn't working properly doesn't know where i am, i've done a little bit of reading think it could be the sat nav sensor/ antenna but i'm not sure what i'm looking at!!! been in to the sub menu and this what I get:

Disconnect the battery for 30 minutes. If that doesn't work I would replace the antenna. About a tenner from ebay.

TBH you dont need to get to it. I believe from factory that is where they are located, but the BMW retrofit puts it behind the instrument binnacle. I see no reason why you could not put it under the rear centre console as long as there is no metal above it. The antenna connected to the DVD drive so you will have to remove the centre console to get to the connector anyway.

Not a hard job, just time consuming the first time you do it.

I would get an antenna from eBay next then. Just plug it in to test. If sell works then work out where you what to put it. Most have magnetic bases so where I said above the rear centre console is a ideal location.

I had this a few years back after a roadtrip to Switzerland. in short it went berserk when I entered Switzerland (I only have an EU map) and it took a number times of disconnecting the battery till it worked again once I got back home

Iam getting abit lost with this !

The almanac says yes so can I get it to search by leaving the ignition on with a clean day to put the satellite back up

As I put above, it connects to the DVD drive.

Mine did this about a year ago.

The antenna is in the housing behind your rear view mirror. Easy to get at. The OEM antenna has a short lead and a micro co-ax connector that plugs into another cable terminated behind the mirror. If you buy a cheaper non OEM one it will come with a really long length of co-ax attached that you will struggle to lose within the space available behind the mirror. You will also need to make sure you obtain the correct gender fitment for the co-ax before ordering. You could of course plug in behind the mirror then run the cable down behind the dash and place the antenna there instead. I would have thought removing the centre console to access the Nav computer directly would be the the most time consuming of all the options by a country mile.

In any event there is not really much that can go wrong with an antenna and as others have said a series of cold resets are more likely to yield success with this problem. I think I tried disc out and battery off plus an unplug/re-plug of the antenna. Then power back on disc in and it came back OK. Mine has been fine ever since. If you are running a 'custom' map disc you could try getting a new one and make sure it's single layer and a high quality disc.

You can see how long the cable is on the OEM antenna here...

The cheap alternatives all seem to have 2 or 3m of cable on them.

Good luck I know how annoying it can be when things stop working.
