Sat nav integration with Raspberry Pi - Aux Video in??

Hello,

Have recently picked up my lovely Alpina Roadster and am starting to wonder if I can make more use of the professional sat nav system. Currently it's just a glorified display of which radio station I've selected.

I'd like to integrate it with a Raspberry Pi based media system but not sure how I can integrate the screen.

What options are available?

I saw some posts talking about a factory tv tuner - has anyone worked out a more directly connected (and cheaper ) route to taking over the screen? :)

Worth also mentioning I'm a software engineer, so happy to get my hands dirty with some coding.

Does the professional sat nav support the ibus interface?
 
It depends what you want. For video, the tv tuner is almost certainly the cheapest option, unless you want free view in which case expect to pay £300plus for a module.

That gives you an input for pretty much any video device. An Intravee will open up a whole host of extras and is the best integration into the nav for an ipod bar none.
 
I am in the process of gutting the screen completely and fitting a modern Android tablet. Will be doing a write up once complete... :-)

I will. I have the standard Business single CD slot, but it should work with all headunits. I am nearly ready to do the write up, just waiting for the chosen Android device to arrive from China. I have been working with a 1:1 dummy device to get the size and positioning right.

Looking forward to heain a bout this. Either way sounds interesting but I think I would rather keep the the standard screen. But I am sure I will change my mind once I see it.
 
Some of the integrations i have seen with the Raspberry Pi are brilliant! What are your plans with it? As mentioned before though have a word with Peter from Intravee as I'm sure much of the coding will be able to be used or similar :thumbsup:

Well I bought the resler ibus interface and have it hooked up to the PI:

Initial plan is simply to create an mp3 jukebox which emulates a cd changer. When I get there, I'll work out what is next... :)
