Hi there. I'm thinking of retrofitting a satnav, as apart from cutting the hole in the dash everything looks fairly straight forward on the how to section. A few questions I do have a few concerns that dont seem to been covered. These are : What satnav unit have people used? I was thinking of getting hold of a mark 4, but just wondered if anyone has used this one? does it fit in the cuby hole between the seats? Does it work with the monitor and radio? Any help would be appreciated? Also where has everyone got there parts from? I check Ebay daily, and apart from america there never seems to be any parts in the uk. I've tried online breakers and have had no responce from them, so running out of ideas.

Thanks for any help in advance Jamie

The MkIV DVD based is the standard system and it fits in the space between the seats. Can't recall which carrier as not had mine out for a while. Yes it work with the pop up display. Radio - yes for TMC connection, but the radio is single channel so yu have to tune to a TMC station or listen to anothe rmusic source, CD, etc.

Source. Ebay my friend is your friend, but remember the Sat Nav unit is common across many models

I had a new radio fitted to my 56 plate roadster under warranty which has a dual turner so I get TMC data even when I listen to Radio 4.

The only problem with the nav system is the screen colours, the main map colour background is too light and the selected route is shown in white so unless you are in a built-up area you can't see the route.

I am experimenting with Navtweak and different colour sets so will post a report when done.

Good luck with your upgrade.

As CJ said MKIV is what you need, no brackets required for UK Cars. MKIV drives also fitted to Mini, Rover 75, Rage Rover, along with E46 etc...

ebay is you best bet, do an international search. My monitor came from greece and I know others that have bought parts from USA for this mod.

Thanks all. Slowly tracking parts down and cant wait to get started on it. Any more hints and tips on parts would be much appreciated. Cheers :)

Hi all. Still looking for parts for my retrofit satnav and keep finding parts sugesting that the monitor for x3 is the same as the z4,. Anyone shed any light on this, is it true, or just a false advert trying to cash in?

no it's not the same, it will fit but look shite.

PVR posted a pic of a Z4 with X3 monitor a while back, but I would wait until you find the proper one.

Also remeber that each screen is designed for the LCD to be read at a certain angle. Zed 4 is a low seat and high sat nav position. Outside its range it looks washed out or faint.
