Sat nav flip up screen

Hi, does anyone know how the sat nav flip up screen on bmw z4 e85 would operate with a Sony radio? I just purchased the car this week and the screen comes up but nothing happens I didn’t get a manual with the car too and can’t find any answers online. It’s not a touchscreen radio it’s a single din with Bluetooth.Thank you

Welcome to the forum.
I'm no audio expert but I suspect the nav screen works in conjunction with the bespoke BMW head unit.
You may find you have to revert to one of those?
Hopefully one of the audio whizz's will be along soon to advise you better.

When the screen opens, it communicates with the navigation computer first which is between the seats. No matter what radio you have, it should still show some functions such as the board computer. The cable from the nav computer goes straight from there to the pop up screen as well as the radio, which I assume has been disconnected at that end as it won't work with an aftermarket like that.

Thank you so much for your help that’s fantastic what’s a great forum. It does come on yes. Would you know if it’s a big job to upgrade the sat nav to touchscreen? Many thanks

You cannot upgrade to touch screen unless you replace the pop up screen by one of those AliExpress units which replace it. Some have replaced the screen that is inside the pop up screen with a same size touch screen by dismantling that unit.

A fair few options available, you can take your pick how much effort you want to invest and what the end result is that you want to see.

I recently changed my system with CarPlay, but is not touch screen.

Thank you so much you’re a genius the CarPlay looks brill doesn’t have to be a touchscreen at all, just something working would be good so I’m going down that route. Thanks again

Dear PVR
I read your post about Carplay on the original FlapScreen with great interest.
I have a BMW Z4 e85 from 2003 and would like to see this implemented in my roadster. I don't know if it makes a difference but I would like to install CarPlay andriod.
Can you give me the components you installed and the order of your procedure to install all this.
If there is already a description posted somewhere, please provide the link to it.
Thank you in advance.
Frans

Sure, it is here: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2093728&hilit=Carphonics#p2093728

Android and CarPlay is a choice, it is the same unit that you fit.

Biggest standard issue is the carpet in the boot that you need a bulge for the tuner.

I have a slightly more prosaic question about the flip up screen.

Mine flips up, and everything works, but at the top of the 'flip' it's more of a 'flop' - it doesn't lock upright - I can push it up the last 20% of the way, but it then, more often than not, flops back down again.

The left hand angle adjustment buttons work, but it feels like there is something inherently broken at the 'top' of the raising mechanism. Instead of locking in place, it just hangs there.

Any ideas? - All gratefully received...

Thanks
