Sat Nav DVD upgrade

I have a 06 Z4MR with sat nav, I am wanting to update the 06 DVD and was wondering what is the best (and cheapest) way to do this. I have seen [link deleted] and was hoping someone on the forum may have used them and could let me know what they are like? I particularly like the idea of a custom start up screen. At £35 it seems to much of a bargain to be true. Can these DVD upgrades cause any permanent damage to my car? Am I just best off going to a main dealer and letting them take my pants down?

Some say yes and prefer to buy direct from bmw - but I've not had any issues on either the map or firmware cd's that are from alternative sources.

£99 from dealer when trading your original in. 01-11 is out now.

Illegal disks? Not much different from walking in a showroom and replace a dealer DVD with your old one.

Have you got the latest and if so, any improvements?

No, not got the latest. Still running 2008 at the moment.

Only problem is The Netherlands - during the recession, they did a huge amount of road building and as I am going there later this week, I will have to battle my way through complete new networks. Doubt that the 2011 is up to date though as the roads are still being worked on and released bit by bit.

Then again, I know the area very well.

Good luck, if it were me I'd be crapping myself but we all know about my navigational skills (or lack thereof)

But think of it ... new roads, smooth surfaces and I am driving on a foreign plate so the speed cameras do not work for me :D

Oooh good spot - 2011 HIGH & Prof have been released.

I think I shall try and get my hands on a "test" version before I purchase..

Hi, does the upgrade affect the computer display layout and all the info etc,or only the satnav and start up screen?

cheers dan

2011 dvd = maps and poi's only (although it seems the 2011 has the same poi's as the 2010, not sure about that yet though)
firmware cd controls satnav & start up screen (free from xoutpost)

some sensible googling will get you to somewhere you can get a custom splash screen, software update 4-1/01 and 2011 NAV disc. It brings you speed camera locations, voice activation warning and day/night view of maps and 7 digit postcode input for £45 via paypal. the delivery was excellent.

I've upgraded yesterday and it took precisely 2 minutes from installing new disc, update of software to putting in the new nav disc.

winner.

Would you say it's a worthwhile upgrade?

Full postcode sounds good.

Can you turn speed camera alerts on and off?

worthwhile? yes.

on the display the normal setup menu is modified and where on previous versions you could change colours from the blue brown backgrounds now the meuns include day/night nav view and camera alerts on/off.

all of that is free on xoutpost.com except the 7 digit postcodes..

but they arent implemented brilliantly as they represent poi's.

5 digit does me, if i need more i google it and get enough to put a street in.

night mode is good though (but it's free)
