Sat nav display

So I picked up a new zed at the auctions. Took a chance but got it for a good price. Engine is great and bodywork is in excellent condition. Really please with the car but I'm having a problem with the nav display.

The screen pops up and there is noise from the radio but the nav unit in the centre console has no power light and the display is blank. I have removed the centre console and I have the nav unit out. Is there a way of testing if there is power at the unit so I can determine if it's the actual unit at fault. Also is it that unit that controls the whole display for the screen or should it have some display from the radio.

Cheers

ccrikey, that was risky! buying from an auction! hope it's not hiding a barrage of issues.. u get to give it a scan prior to bidding?

i thinnk the screen should display something even though the centre console unit isnt powered.
i remember swapping the nav disc in mine and am sure i could still use radio etc with no disc in. the nav boots from the disc but i'm sure there's a firmware in the headunit enabling other functionality.
could check this later to clarify for you.
if there's no light on the disc player

edit: type? e85/6/9?

Scan was all clear, it's an e85. I've removed the radio and the wiring is somewhat not standard. The original plug that usually goes into the radio now has extra cables attached to it before it goes to the radio

The screen won't work at all unless it opens itself. If this is happening the it would suggest an issue with the nav drive in some way.

I would first disconnect the battery for 30 minutes and see if that fixes.

If not create a firmware disc and put that in so if it fixes anything.

The monitor is connected and powered directly via the same loom as the nav drive and is plugged in to the nav computer. I am sure the screen will not work with a duff nav drive.

The screen opens up by itself but it just blank. The nav drive has no power light on at all. Here's a pic of the wiring

That extra wiring is a break out loom for a phone kit that looks like it's been removed. If you unplug both ends you can refit the OEM loom back into the radio and refit any relevant plugs.

Thanks Stuart, one thing, there is a white plug loose and one plugged into the lower socket. Any idea what the spare will be for

That wiring is only for the headunit though. Also you have a spare white plug there. So you might need to merge the pins otherwise something isn't going to work (only audible stuff) nothing to do with your problem.

Can you eject the map disc?

If not the computer sounds likely.

Can reject the disc. Unit is totally dead. I've removed the console and got the nav unit out. Taking it in to get tested tomoro

Not sure what the spare white plug is for but once you've transfers it all back to OEM have a look and see if there is a spare slot in the frame.

the white plug looks like the same white plug which is connected into the back of the radio!!!

I'm guessing they fitted aux but didn't merge the pins. Unless aux is in the black plug.

Did you ever get it fixed? experiencing same issue now :(

On mine it was a faulty iPod interface corrupting the canbus circuit. As soon as I unplugged it all problems were cured. It was behind the radio. Pics attached
