SAT NAV DISC NOT RECOGNISED ISSUE

Today on my way home from work. I went to select map on the sat nav and a error message came up. 'Saying disc not recognised!' I fitted the satnav 3 years ago and have had no problems with it. I've been using the same disc for all of this time. Has anyone else had this issue and if so how did you get it fixed. My worse fear is that the laser needs replacing has anyone had this done? Any help would be appreciated.

It can be condensation on the disc. Both my zed and my Ford have troubles in below freezing weather too.

Someone on the forum replaced their laser recently and said it was reasonably simple. As long as you're competent with a soldering iron you'll be ok. I'd give the disc a wipe down first though, simple free fixes first :)

That would be me. I replaced the laser in my DVD unit and its now good as gold.

I used to have the same problem with my 2012 disc as the laser was probably fading a bit.

Upgraded to a 2013 map disc which is single layer, not duel layer and since then I have had no problems at all.

Don't know what year disc you had before but it seems the V.32 update allows the unit to read duel layer discs but apparently it isn't very good at it if the laser is fading a bit.

One of the first signs of a failing Mk IV nav unit is an increasing difficulty in reading burned (as opposed to ‘pressed’) DVDs. If they start to have issues with burned discs they’ll eventually be unable to read pressed discs too.

As others have said, if the nav unit starts to fail, you can just replace the laser unit – the process is documented at http://www.eurosatnav.co.uk/laser.html and it looks like it's fairly simple

Yeah right. Fairly simple if you ignore the 2 hour ball aching strip down of the interior trim just to get the nav DVD unit out of the car to work on.

Today I finally got in the car to replace the laser on the satnav. Unfortunately after replacing the laser it's now told me no cd/dvd in navigation computer, insert cd/dvd. I then took it out again and stripped it down to check everything was good and rebuilt it only for it to give me the same message.

Has anyone had the same issue? Anyone know what might be wrong?

I didn't encounter any problems other than my soldering, but that shouldn't cause any problems.

It also still takes in the disc and I can hear it spinning so I cant see it being the disc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately your soldering could be the issue depending on the issues you had. What did you solder?

BUMP

I have a similar problem. I am running 2007 disc and it works fine. The new 2012 disc bought from the dealer does not work. It does not even recognise that there is a disc in the unit. Needless to say I have taken it back to the dealership and they think it must be a faulty disc. I can count on one hand how many faulty discs, dvd and cd, I have had over the years. What are the odd? (rhetorical)

So where is the smart money? A faulty disc or something else?
