Any history of problems with sat nav systems? I have an 07 car.

Yesterday it reset itself but when it came back on the GPS went  and it showed me driving through lakes etc. Tried the turn off and on, removing the DVD etc but nothing.

Reluctant to try a software update in this state - leave that to the dealer
Booked in to have it looked at.

Is this common?

It goes like this when the power is lost to the system.

I had this happen after a large service by BMW who had obviously unpluged it. (June '08)

Also twice now in the same place just outside Luton (July '08)the screen has gone, and the system has reset, like I was hit by a microwave bomb. It resets itself over one or two days but I have notived that I'm now 20M out in my actual position copaired to where the system is positioning me. I have BMW warantity and a service due so I will report this at the service.

Apart from your message I have heard nobody else with this problem. Mine is a '05 owned from new.

Mine did this while traveling through South Carolina to Florida. The NAV just stayed in SC wandering around. Did a little research on the forums and this seems to be an occasional problem. I made an appt, but like the forums read, it reset it self in a day or two before I brought it in. No problems for four months. Mine was a 2007.

Well mine hasnt reset its self. Im not getting the green satellite in the top right hand corner so it looks like the GPS receiver has failed?

I will be willing to bet that on Thursday morning just before i take it into the stealer it sorts its self out. :headbang:

Taking the mapping CD out will do nothing

Disconnect the Sat Nav unit for 5 minutes and it will likely work. You can either get at this through the service hatch behind the carpet (fidly) or easiest to disconnect the battery lead. (You'll loose day, date and a few minor computer displays - MPG, etc. but nothing else.)

It can also happen if you were using a copied CD, not of course that anyone would ever do that...

That said if you're going to the dealer and it's under warranty you may as well wait.

Yes, that absolutely was not the cause of what happened with my sat nav a few weeks ago when I needed it most. :? Fortunately if that were to happen I believe the system would recover itself by re-inserting the official disc and allowing the system to reboot fully (car left for about an hour).

Screen went a horrible brown colour when my sat nav failed - assume this is the 'safe' mode and surely not the colour for non sat-nav monitors?

In actual fact it needed a whole new sat nav unit and antenna. unfortunately i didnt get the perspective view software update installed like i had before so i will have to "find" it again and install. :?

Nica warranty claim then as they are pretty expensive new :)

Press 8 seconds the menu option whilst in setup, check the "perspective" tick box on the system menu. On SatNav map mode, click the right button, select orienatation - perspective

My BMW dealer is replacing the Sat Nav system, as mine is all over the place. No charge as I've got extended BMW warranty. Unit is on order Mark 2 BMW 0
