Same but different.

Have you ever been anywhere where they have basically the same cars as you are used to seeing but different

for example I'm currently in Brazil, which when I first got here surprised me as I expected to see loads of old Yank Tanks doing the rounds but its much more European Peugeot, Renault, VW, Fiat etc

The cars fall into slightly different catogries (I know its not spelt my brians not working tonight) I guess because of the price £100,000 for a new Z4 anyone,
So a Fiesta is the size we think of as a Focus, plus they seem to be in general 1 generation behind ok.

And here they seem to have a preference for Saloon's/Sedan's

So there are 4 door saloon versions of the Ford Fiesta, Renault Clio, Peugeot 207,

The Dacia Sandero so beloved of James May is sold here as a Renault and I spotted a current generation (to us) Astra today badged as a Chevrolet Vectra, they are still using the previous generation Astra

Hope I make some sense, just curious to see what others have seen on their travels.

'Second World' markets do throw up some interesting stuff. I drove through Iran recently and they have a saloon version of the old Mazda 121 / Kia Pride - the Saba Saipa. In fact as everyone in Iran (outside Tehran) drives one of about 8 different cars, the Saba accounted for about 1 in 3 (if not more). The other dominant one was the Pug 405, a version of which is still built there. We were in a RHD, UK registered Hyundai Accent and looked like we had come from the moon.

China has some good ones too. As well as all the cheap clones, the Daewoo Lanos is badged a Buick. Shanghai VW do a MK3 Jetta with updated dash/nose/rear....

In Uzbekistan there is UZDaewoo. They build cars locally and I am not exaggerating when I say every single passenger car on the road in Uzbekistan (sold in the last 10 years at least) was a Daewoo Nexia, Nubira or Matiz. All of them. There were some old Ladas, Moskovitch's etc tootling around from the Soviet days, but 99.9% UZDaewoos...

South Africa has VW Citi Golfs. MK1 Golf body with a form of MK4 interior.

Made me look twice!

Now that IS cool! Although im guessing its not as safe as many new cars! The dash is from what looks like a Skoda Fabia (if my drunken mini-cab memory serves me correct ;) )

I was in Cuba in the summer, some really interesting cars there, some big old Buicks and Cadilacs etc with Lada engines in, some sort of suger water mix for brake fluid, and some of the old russian trucks are amazing
