Salt removal

Not sure if it's common knowledge on here or not, but cold water neutralises salt much more efficiently than hot water does.
I had a go at both zeds at smartbear towers this morning.
The z3 daisy wheels are still looking good Mr wilks, might get them powder coated in shadow chrome later this year.

Hi Smartbear with you with the salt job and to swill off asap, also like the Eucaliptus and Cordylines in the garden. Cheers Baz :thumbsup:
 
Not thought about that before. I guess the salt crystals are simply blasted off, as opposed to they could melt into a hot solution and penetrate further into the chassis, then re-crystallize. Interseting. :thumbsup:
 
you mean it washes it off (dissolves) it better in cold.... id be worried about your water if it neutralises the salt :P .....







.... sorry couldn't help myself :D are you sure its not the down to what you have put on the cars? heat usually aids dissolving
 
I'm pretty sure that salt dissolves better in warm water than in cold water.
Not only the absolute amount untis saturation (which is for nacl (unlike many other salts) relative constant), but certainly the speed. Higher temperature means molecules are more mobile.
Warm water generally dissolves and cleans better than cold water, not only salt but other road dirt.
Try cleaning dishes in cold water.

Surely it would be the opposite of this. The salt will dissolve faster and attain a greater saturation level in hotter water. But you don't want to dissolve the salt into the solution, You simply want to blast it of using the mechanical force of the water jet. That way any water that flows into nooks and crannies is less saturated and will do less damage in the longer term.

Makes for an interesting, if slightly nurdish, discussion any hows. :D
 
The curve for salt doesn't change much based on water temperature.

We drive with studded or friction tyres, i can say about 90% drives with studded tyres and 10% drives with friction tyres. It is mandatory to use winter tyres from december to march.
Usually there are snow plows in the road and they are cleaning so much snow as they can, same trucks have salt spread machines too. If tempeature is i say between +2 celsius an -10 celsius they spread salt everywhere and try to melt all snow and ice, result is that brown horrible stuff which sticks all cars. When we have -10celsius or colder here is quite decent driving weather because they cannot use salt and road are dry and clean to drive, altough usually icy / snow.
Currently we have lot of snow again...
