Sale Feeler - Ellipsod wheels and tyres

I'm considering changing to 108 split rims - and I'm interested to hear what I can get for my wheels.

They are in mint condition (actually being refurbished at the moment by Lepsons). How much can I expect with/without tyres?

Where are you based?

I have a set of 108's in need of refurb, if you ain't sourced some yet. How much are lepsons charging?

In in Leatherhead, Surrey. I already have a set of 108s lined up if I do the switch, but thank you for the offer.

Lepsons are charging £65 plus VAT per wheel for a full referb (acid dip, sand blast, machine/fill any marks, and baked on powercoat+lacquer). Kwikfit are paying for the rear two since they marked them when putting on my non RFTs. I'm having a smoked chrome finish similar to this:

Its a bit extra for this, refurb would normally be about £55+VAT. I've no idea how much it would cost to refurb 108s, I've heard quotes of several hundred per wheel?

The 108s I have are actually on loan from a very kind forum member - m44rrt.

I borrowed them so I could still drive whilst Lepsons refurbish my 107s in the style above. Problem is I've fallen in love with the 108s and considering buying them from m44rrt, and then selling the ellips when I get them back.

i like them both really, what would you do with them 108's? just leave them standard or do they need a refurb?

I sold my ellipsoids with a part worn tyres (3mm to 5mm) for £400 a shipping iirc to a former member, who was selling on his car.
They were near perfect with just the odd minor mark.
That might give you a ballpark figure.

There are plenty pictures of mine around with 108's on a Sterling Grey if you need to see what they look like a little darker than oem silver.

Wait until you get your 107s back, they will look so sexy you won't want to part with them

They are spotless so I would leave them as they are. One worry of the 108s is how costly a refurb is if they get marked.

Great thank you. It's all your photos that have got me inspired for a darker finish on the 107s!

That's what I'm really hoping - I keep trying to convince myself that 108s are a bad idea compared to 1 piece wheels. I gave the car a wash yesterday and couldn't stop looking at them!

PS is it a good idea to Photoshop out plates when posting pics - some people seem to do it and others don't. Is it to prevent someone cloning your plate?

When I was looking for a used Z4 the 107s were second on my list only to M seats. With the aerokit they just seem "right" - besides, with the facelift the 108s have become a bit ubiquitous.

When do you get them back?

daveg, i like the 108's on your car. have they been refurbed? they look like they have a polished edge.

it is very hard to tell what looks best TBH

i need to sort my sig out with a more up to date, lighter pic in a nice location

I like both wheels, but 107 do suit the car best IMHO, from a style pov. The 108 look more sporty.

I have both sets, both need sorting/recon though :(

might see how much it is to send to lepsons from Leeds!

Thanks for the comments everyone, appreciate your input especially since the 108 vs 107 debate must have been done a few times.

Wondermike, - I'm collecting them on Saturday - will put some pics up.

Rudd_2002, - Yes they do, isn't this normal?

Mr Whippy, - Sounds ideal - you can drive on one set while the others are being done :) . Postage would be somewhere between £30-40 each way. I've used these before, an agent for courier companies like Citylink http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370325371540

107s v 108s - such a personal thing!

I bought my 202s which are similar to the 107s (they were advertised as 107s) with RFT tyres - fronts 5-6mm, rears 3-4mm - for £350 via ebay plus a further £32 shipping. Condition was OK: one wheel perfect but the other 3 have minor kerbing marks. I thought that was a fair price considering the condition. They took a bit of cleaning up to remove tar and marks from the rear of them, but a long session with nasty Wonder Wheels stuff (I'd not normally touch that with a bargepole!) worked wonders - pardon the pun.

P.S. Here's a cheaper company for shipping 18" alloys @ £32.00 and other stuff: https://www.paisleyfreight.com/. Like that ebay link above, they're an agent and use Citylink for the actual delivering. I've used them several times recently: buying my 202s, selling my 108s to Ireland, buying my heated seats, buying a set of 104s. Slight delay on the 104s but that was due to Citylink and not the agent!

So do Citylink take good care of the wheels then? They arrive round and straight etc :D

£40 delivery doesn't sound so bad all said and done, but adding £80 to their £70+vat ish per wheel ~ £410.

I can drive through to a fairly local person who does a great job (£90 a wheel) and ultimately get them done cheaper, and with even more TLC (wet paint process)

It really is a shame that most powder painters don't bother to work as well as Lepsons do, because they clearly do a great job for the money! Just they are soooo far away :D

LOL I can't be critical of Citylink in the least - they've done a great job about deliverying stuff intact so far :D. Helps if the sender packages stuff up well, i.e. cardboard covering the faces of the alloys. They stuffed up delivery date of alloys I had delivered recently, but they blamed that on the weather...
