(Sad) Sexy SORN Pics

What's everyone using to keep their batteries in fine fettle? I am pretty sure mine is a Lithium battery and was reading up last night, it looks like standard battery chargers are not recommended.

Same as Jembo - solar trickle charger. Great bit of kit!

Ah, but those roads! Such roads... :driving:

Would this one do for the 1/2 hour of sun we get up here :D

I would rule that one out if you're using a cover as it's not waterproof.

This is the one I have - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003M9FRH2

I like that it plugs into the cigarette lighter and that the leads are (just about!) long enough to reach around a full cover. I don't like that it doesn't have a charging LED. They also recommend that you put a bead of silicone sealant around the edge of the panel, which doesn't inspire confidence!

Also, are you sure you have a lithium battery? Unusual unless it's a lightweight racing battery.

I double checked and its a calcium battery:

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs-blades-batteries/car-batteries/yuasa-hsb096-silver-12v-car-battery-5-year-guarantee

Already replaced once under warranty as was told once these fully discharge they are knackered. I dont have a car cover, it's on my drive so the panel will be on the dash. Car is loaded up with colli 476 so that always sees it thorough.

Connected to a ctek, I have every confidence for a trouble free start in march next year...

Probably a silly question, but do these cigarette lighter socket solar trickle chargers need a live cigarette socket? Mine socket only works with the ignition on, so will the charger work with the ignition off?
Thanks

Here’s my two. Have the difficult decision of which to tax 1st March. One is double the cost of the other! 🙈

No, it needs a live socket. Many come with crocodile clips as well though.

Thanks MrPT. Not sure whether the charger leads can be routed anywhere from the battery to outside the car with the boot closed, as the car will be parked outside.

Mine was sorned ... then I sold the house where it was being kept and I had to move it !

Saturday was not a great day to do it but it’s now tucked up again in it’s new home

I’ll probably sorn it again at the end of the month

They recommend that you don’t connect directly to the battery but to the charging points under the bonnet

The bonnet will close ok with a lead running out of it

Mine won't be SORN'ed but won't be used much over winter - just when the weather permits...

I did that last year but the weather was so crap I only used it three times between November and March

I was away for three weeks over Xmas and then a week in Feb which didn’t help
