S2000 seats fitted.

I'm impressed by your handiwork, nice job !
Lederzentrum products from Colourlock will have then looking like new in just a few hours.

For the lazy (well, lazier) amongst us, E46 sports seats are a direct fit both mechanically and electrically.

Apologies for the 6-month bump as my first post on the forum.

Gaz, do your S2000 seats sit lower than standard as you fitted them? The box section is already adding 40mm compared to bolting directly to the floor, but I'm guessing you may already be sitting lower than standard.

I'd love to buy a Z4 but at 6'4" I'm too tall to sit comfortably with standard seats. If there's a seat I can DIY into the car that sits a couple of inches lower then it would really open up the possibility of picking up a Z4 as my next toy :)

They do sit lower, but by how much I am not sure, the side on photo may give you an idea if someone else could post a side on photo of the standard seats.
The alternative is getting a Z with the M sport seats which I believe sit lower than the standard ones?

Brilliant mate and look like they should be their. Great look. Do they sit the same height as the original seats or lower. They look a touch lower which is good for me.

Thanks so much for feeding back... that's really great to hear. The door may be opening to Z4 ownership for me! :yeah:

I guess using 60x20 box section would gain me a little more room too...

From my searches a couple of months back, everything I read said that the M seats don't sit any lower. Happy to be corrected though.

Only problem is 2 of the bolts need to be fed in from the side (see original pics in 1st post) because of where the seat runners sit. Not sure you could go smaller on the box section as getting the bolts in wouldn't be possible.

Where in the country are you? You would be welcome to come sit in mine if you are anywhere near Devon.

I did note the complexity on the transmission tunnel side of the mounting; maybe I can't go lower. I guess I won't know until I have a really good look, first hand, for what might be possible. This certainly gives me hope though.

Thanks for the offer, very kind of you! Alas I'm up in Reading, so not particularly close, but maybe I'll give you a shout if life takes me near to you any time soon. It would be ideal to be able to sit in your seats and see how my head clears the soft-top.

Bit delayed but they look great! Always put off fitting other seats as I thought people normally ended welding up runners etc.

How did you know they'd fit? I wonder what else would?

My philosophy is you can make anything work (within reason) if you’re willing to put the time into it.

E46 seats work and they look more chunky, if that’s what you’re after. You wouldn’t have thought so just looking at them, seem too big.

I guess it depends on what you’re looking to put in? If it physically fits the space then the rest can be worked around!

Saw a post on here where someone had fitted them to electric bases, so figured I would get them in some how. I don't weld so guessed either box section or flat plate would work.
Ideally at some point I would like to buy some Recaro' from a Corsa VXR and have a go getting them in. All the bulky plastics on the sides makes me think they wouldn't fit though. Need to actually see a pair to figure out what can be removed from them.

60x40mm. Think it was standard 3mm mild steel.
From what I have read it has to be at least 3mm mild or 5mm Aluminium when doing anything seat related for strength.

They aren't bulky per se, just big in the wrong places.

For example, at the back it's quite flat versus the sculpted shape of the rear bulkhead so they don't go as far back as you might expect.

I haven't actually fitted them yet, just dropped them in, but I have some concerns about the seating position.

Specifically, I sit with the standards seats in the lowest position - the distance from the lowest part of the seat cushion (i.e. the bit you sit on) to the road surface is 28cm.

With the Corsa seats, it's 32.5cm. I could drop that slightly when it's all bolted down, but then using box section rails it's going to lift it even more.

In addition, with the standard seat in the position I want, I measured xcm from the wheel to the back of the seat (the actual distance isn't relevant). With the Corsa seat, at it's furthest back setting, it's 2cm closer to the steering wheel.

The net result is that I will end up sitting closer and higher than I really want which is not ideal - however the seats are *so nice* that I'm going to give it a go anyway.

Would it be possible for you to measure the high the S2000 seats fit on your modified rails (nb this is often called the "h point")? I have another car the Corsa seats will fit much easier in so if the S2000 seats position is much better I might do that instead.

Pictures illustrating how I was measuring:

I make the H point 28cm in mine.

Is there anyway of removing them from the subframes and making your own, or are they pretty intergral like the standard Z4 seats?
If that were possible then it would make removing the airbags and chopping the excess plastic off to make them slide back a bit further worthwhile.

Don't tell me that, now I have to go and buy some S2000 seats! Is yours standard or lowered (suspension I mean)?

I was considering using some flat bar to bolt the seats to instead of box section as the Corsa seat runners s are only slightly narrower.

The runners come off very easily, but further disassembly than that looks messy. I don't really want to butcher the seats too much as the plan is to be able to use these in another car in the future to justify the cost.

Mine is lowered on Eibachs, but they defo sit slightly lower than the standard seats, but not by much. I now see less of the bonnet than i could before, and i ran the old seats on the lowest setting.
