S2000 advice (or accord type r)

So I’m considering getting rid of the work lease car as it’s 250 per month for a car I’m rarely here to drive
And as we are applying for a mortgage soon my advisor said wth the scheme id expect to be able to borrow around 11-14k less than if I didn’t have the debt of a lease car
So I’m thinking of getting a semi interesting car around 2-5k

Thinking of either Honda Accord type r’s which are fairly cheap or to stump to higher end of budget and get an old s2k which I’ve always loved when I was a kid and probably should’ve had before I bought the ///m all those years ago
Anyone had any use of one...? And any advice? For either? Or any other ideas of cars..?

I was fortunate enough to buy a low mileage one, used it for 3 years then sold it last October for £2k more then I paid for it.
The issue you will find with the older ones are, they are either high mileage or have been messed about with.
In my opinion they are one of those classic cars that are best left alone, everything about them is well designed, well made and therefore difficult to improve upon.
Many a S2k has been ruined with cheap coilovers or lowering springs. Unless you are paying £3500 plus for suspension you won't improve on the Showa originals.

But I'd certainly recommend an S2000 as a fun, nice to drive car.
I bought the E89 35i as a touring car which it's very good for, not as engaging as the Honda but better, more comfortable for long distances.

Thanks mate....I guess problems are rust with these? And general wear of the roof. Do you know if the gt hardtops are readily available second hand?

Mine was a GT and still had the original soft top which was mint.
Yes the early ones suffered rust in the rear wheel arches.
Certainly worth getting a facelift model 2004 on, but good ones are £10k plus

I had an extensive test drove of an s2000 but it really didn't wow me at all. You mentioned accord or s2000. What about an Integra dc5? People go on about lack of torque but my dc5 pulled just as hard as my st-2 focus St but really had the smiles per miles factor

If you're looking to free up some money and want a nice daily how about an accord CL7 type S? A nice clean one can be had for about 2500 and they are well finished with good power. I have a 2.0 se in that shape and apart from maintenance it has cost me absolutely nothing in 4 years of daily driving

I had a 55 plate S2000 for 3 1/2 years, they are a great car and I’ve regretted selling it ever since. Remember any S2000 06 onwards are on the higher road tax.
Future classic.

Looks like most of the s2k’s are either too expensive for what I want to spend...or probably in awful nick! So might be better sticking to a nice 2-2.2k accord R so now it’s a case of finding one! I love s2000’s but i think a crap one would put me off having a nice one in the future! There’s an e46 m3 for sale at £2200 but it must have something horrendous with it!

The 8th gen accord is worth looking at if you can get past it not being a Type R. You can get them with the K24 (2.4L vtec) they're a nice ride, well built and with 200hp quick enough to keep up. The only way to tell them over the 2L is the 2 large exhausts pipes, a VERY stealthy car
I had and EX spec K24 one 4ish years ago, (since then I have changed my daily driver twice) have regretted selling it ever since.
Check the sunroof if fitted for rust.

That’s very kind of you to offer! Just incase it’s in your street the car I like most is in Portadown County Armagh if that means anything?

Up your budget a bit, and get an Integra, or up it quite a bit more and get a Civic FD2 - Japanese only cars! Ultra rare, and the civic we never got.

As for the s2000s, I have one as well as my Z and it is quite unique in the sense of, that engine will NEVER be made again. They're a modern relic of an idea that cars can be well designed and engineered, and not just part of a marketing triangle to promote other halo models. It was just a damn good car straight off the production line.

Mileage doesn't hurt these cars particularly but like any other purchase, just make sure it's had correct servicing throughout it's life. There's an example on AT currently, in High Wycombe, which is a pre-facelift on 175000 miles and only 4,300 quid - that car, if it checks out, would easily do another 100,000.

Noticed the market is steadily creeping up though so act soon if you'd like to secure one.

Always thought it was a shame more of these weren't produced in lurid colours, so many for sale are your standard baby blue, grey, and black.
