Rusty calipers

Something that has been bugging me for a while now is the condition of my rusty brake calipers, especially as I'm planning on getting my wheels refurbed this year I don't want them to be spoilt by a rusty lump of metal directly behind them and clearly visible through the 135s. At the weekend a took a wheel off and cleaned up one with a wire brush attachment in a battery drill. After about 10 minutes the surface rust had been removed but the caliper itself is still a dull browny grey colour. I know people paint them, red and blue seem to be quite popular, but I think I'm a bit long in the tooth for that look, and especially on a 2 litre, hardly a snarling beast. Maybe silver or black would be a bit more suitable against ruby black? Any thoughts?

Yes, I think either silver or black would be fine if you don't want a "stand-out" colour.

I felt the same as you when I refurbished my brake callipers and chose gun metal grey in the end and i’m very pleased with them.
If you look at Eurocarparts there’s a whole host of colours to choose from

Coloured calipers look awful unless the are proper 4 pots etc. Silver, black or gold only for me. Here are my silver fronts.

nice shiny nuts gaz, mine are nearly as rusty as my calipers. Where did you get them and do they do a locking one?

I done the carriers black, calipers silver and around the disc a light grey. Pics not the greatest as it's a tight squeeze in the garage.

I used silver for the calipers, carriers and disc bell. I think they stand out as being clean and tidy without looking like I'm trying to make them stand out as a styling statement.

I am running spacers, so bought some longer ones off ebay. Should be able to get some locking ones, but my car is garaged so i didn't bother.

thanks for the offer but a bit of elbow grease and a tin of paint should do the job. Cant be much left of your breaking car now, good to see bits being reused to keep other zeds going!

I've just bought some E-tec "graphite" caliper paint. It's a darker silver, so should be quite a good combination - not too bright so as to be obvious how small they are, not too dark to be completely hidden.

That's the kind of colour I'll be using for mine. Ive got a Touareg which has got calipers in a similar colour and they look quite smart against a silver wheel.

That sounds interesting.... A mate on here (Dave 2 dogs) gave me a tin of yellow Caliper paint. It’ll be interesting to see how yours look when finished
