Rust spots on rear quarters

Hi guys as the title suggests I have small spots of rust on the lower forward corners of both rear quarter panels.

Really looking to see if there bolt on panels or spot welded in?
Also are the roadster panels the interchangeable?

I'm having problems getting a spray painter to take on just the rust as my long term plan is to wrap the car as the paint is really getting shabby, stone chips everywhere and fading .

Hi guys .

Anybody every change the rear quarters on there. 06 coupe?
Mine are showing small rust spots on the lower front edge where it meets the sill cover.
I plan on wrapping the car so just need to sort this out , are they bolt on parts or spot welded?
And do the roadster 1's fit?

I was thinking of doing it myself but I'd want to do it rite,
I'd rather take them off and treat all the rust 1st
 
Rear quarters and front wings are all bolt on, apparently though, there is one nut/bolt on the rear that is an absolute bitch to get at of you haven't removed the roof, possible but awkward.

Why do you want to remove it, if your going to wrap, just sand the rust spots down and treat the metal, then get it wrapped.

The problem with rust is you always think you have got it all removed, I want to make certain !
Taking the panels off is the best way to get right in to every corner, plus there's bound to be more than just surface spots :?

Thanks, the picture actually helps, is that some sort of adhesive along the top edge?

I'm probably being a bit over the top but I don't want it coming back through in 6 months.
I love the car and plan on holding on to it long term so want to sort all the wee issues it has

Will be a seam sealer to stop water getting down there, obviously not working that well!

Not really, modern rust killers are much better now. Bilt Hamber Labs make a great range of rust stoppers http://www.bilthamber.com/
Doubt if the panel is riddled in rust, unless your car has lived by the sea. I would sand back the rust and attack with rust killer.

I've put a claim in for my coupe for rust (she's an 06) and it looks to be going through the warranty however BMW do want to see your service book.

Hmmm service book, well my local bmw dealer recons it's had a fair few services.... But no book when I bought it.

It's at 95k now and when I bought it last November I took it straight to them they were surprised to see it so soon, they had only serviced it the week before.

I can only ask :|

I might just be as well to give it a good go with the rust killer as its only lite spots , funny thing is the paint doesn't look broken from the outside so I thought it was inside rusting through, hence why I was taking the panels off.

Silly question but on front wings whats all the brown dribbles, I notices I have 2 runs like that in engine bay from the front wings

cheers mike, Its bloody noticeable on the silver cars in engine bay when i first spotted it i thought it was rust but its bloody sticky
