Rust on rear arches

Pulled the z4 out other day to my horror found rust on rear quarter and rear arch. No sign of rust when put in garage in January.

A bit unusual,generally its the front wheel arches that always get the rust, :!:

The corrosion on that rear arch doesn’t look recent, the metal appears split/bent out of shape :?

I’ve seen a few with rust in the rear wing. I would say more common on rear than front wings.

Build up of silt has got behind the arch liner and remained damp by the look of that, best pull the liner out and investigate further, clean the entire arch, when the front is dealt with treat the arch with a good rust treatment, I pulled all my arch liners and cleaned behind them and used clear waxoyle all over before refitting the liners.
