Running Lights anyone?

Just been reading through the condensation foglight string - got a 2006 model with the same problem.
Anyone replaced them with running lights or fitted running lights?
Photos?
 
Don't think it's a big mod for these.I think they'd look good in the fog light locations,after all, fog lights are pretty useless anyway.Aftermarket led's do tend to be a bit crap though.
 
Lots of talk, and if I had kept my old car would have looked at at some point using the OEM housings.

Except when it's foggy, of course!

Properly aimed front fog lights should light up the edge of the pavement on the left and the centre line on the right. They are really there for conditions when dipped headlights reflect back from the fog to such an extent that they are of no assistance to seeing the road in front. It is very unlikely that you would be able to drive at more than say, 15-20mph, when fog lights are required.

(Then of course there are the arseholes who think that they are a fashion accessory, and keep them on all the time).
 
If you use OEM fog lights to house a set of LEDs and disconnect them from the light circuit the they would look good. I assume they then would not be illegal as they would not be fog lights but DRLs?
 
I was interested in a comment from a member that they kept their lights on as the Z was low - to aid being seen on motorways and the like by lorry drivers and other dozzy motorists - thought that running lights would be far more useful than foglights. Must read my highway code - is it still illegal to run in normal conditions with foglights on?
 
SO what is the difference between drl and fog lights ?

What defined a light as a drl.

I had an idea to put an extra circular strip of LED's inside the fog light which would work when the fog lights are off, and turn off when the fog lights go on. This way no extra switches needed and wont affect fog lights, but unsure about the legalities.
 
And yet every chav and his dog seem to do it... drives me mad. Supercars tend not to have foglights, yet for some reason the hatchback clan seem to think they make their cars look "sporty". :roll:

Weirdly enough, the Peugeot 406 was one of the worst contenders for this at one point, despite not being remotely sporty. The worst bit being that foglights on 406's are about the size of most car's headlights!

*Edit* The difference between fogs and DRLs is that DRLs are just supposed to sort've "glow" and make the presence of your vehicle more obvious to others. Fog lights are designed to cast light in front of the car to help you see - specifically a bright light that is shone from a low height with the intention of shining underneath fog. Having fog lights on when there is no fog just dazzles other drivers because the lights are so bright. DRLs are nowhere near as bright and can't be used to see your way home at night or in fog. (Pretty sure the majority, if not all of them, don't even have reflectors to direct the light forward.)

I'm def. toying with the idea of converting my ccfl AE into DRL's.
Easiest way seems to be to simply put a fused ignition feed to them and then revert back to the original bulbs for sidelights.

With so many cars appearing now with DRL's it seems to disadvantage the low Z in the visibility stakes, especially when we get to Autumn. Also would keep the car looking current. Also save the fogs for the odd time I might use them.

Time to tinker is my enemy right now :(
