Running Costs & Practicality of Z4 Vs Z4 M?

Hi guys,

I just want to ask some questions about the Z4 and what it is like to own here in the UK. I have worked at BMW for a few years in Australia I have driven the first models in the 2.5i and the 3.0i and the new 06+ I have driven the 2.5si & 3.0si and I have driven the coupe. I have never driven the 2.0 as they aren't available in Oz.

I always wanted a Z4 M but they are extremely expensive in Australia.

My question is what are they like to own here and what are the real running costs in comparison? I am just getting used to the B roads here around Edinburgh and I must admit they aren't the best at times. I am wondering if any of you think you really need to buy a 3.0si or if the Z4 M is just overkill? Is a 2.5si all you really need around town? I know the M is the one to go for but is it worth paying £5-8,000 more than say a 2.5si Sport? Really?

It seems you can get some nice spec cars here and they are quite good prices. Insurance aside...how much extra would a Z4 M cost me to run and maintain over a lesser engined car? I can't remember because we didn't sell many in Aus but what are the service intervals of the two and just how much extra would the services be?

Is there a thread comparing the real running costs?

Cheers.

Can't help on the running costs Big Tav but welcome to scotland Big Tav... when you get your car it would be great to see you on a Z4 forum scotland meet.

in terms of which one is the best I'm sure you'll get conflicting advice based on everyone's experience ... I find the 3.0i plenty for Scotland. As mine is a second car I couldn't justify locking an M away for half the year (although they look and sound magnificent in roadster form).

Cheers mate! I will meet up with you for sure! Just have to see what I end up doing for work to see if I have to buy my own car or get a company car.

Anyone want to tell me how much extra a M would cost me over an si?

I find the ///M substantially thirstier than my old 3.0SE, it's also twice the price to tax at £460 per year and servicing prices are a joke.

I'm gettin 17-20mpg out of it and will get 27ish on a long run. On a standard 12k mileage , I'd say the ///M costs me an extra £2k per year to run over a 3.0L
