I think alot of critics of RFs I notice own the old model Z4s so maybe runflats on those models don't suit the car as much but on the E89 I've no issues :)

Yup! the e85/6 2003-6 was plain terrible on RFT's the later ones must have had some tweak to the suspension as i never really heard many complaints from owners of face lifted Z4's.

That's 'cos you never drive it much Tim :evil:

I'm currently experimenting with Puncture seal in my non-runflats.
So far so good :thumbsup:
 
Must chime in on this..... anyone with an E89 on RFT's that has never driven or ridden in an E89 without RFT's really needs to . I had RFT's on mine, finally burnt the tread off and bought Conti Sport 3's.

HOLY CRAP ! What a difference..... the ride quality improved immensely, the car became comfortable and the handling was better. What's wrong with that ? Nothing . As for improved safety with RFT's, what are you talking about? I had no spare in my M3 and it was on normal tires. I have no spare in my Carrera S and it runs on normal tires. Think about it for a second, times up ! The M3 and the Porsche are perfectly safe, and I blew the back tires off my M3 on Interstate 90 at 85mph, all that happened was the TPM light came on and I pulled over to the side onto an off ramp. Perfectly safe.

Please,.. try one with normal tires before you buy any more RFT's.

In terms of safety, I was referring to my wife's safety should the unthinkable happen. Her being stranded in the middle of nowhere, or on the hard shoulder of the motorway. I've made a choice, and I'm happy with that choice.
 
I had the standard runflats on and swapped them for non runflat Falkens (19" on an e89). To be honest the main difference was the cost, other than that the feel was negligible.

I think the Falkens tend to be quite a hard compound as found them to be less comfortable than the Michelins I had on the Z3, but good value.

Its only at trade in time that a dealer will throw his hands in the air and plunder your wallet for having a non spec car to trade in.
 
What is the road noise like on Non Runflats? (E89)
I had a run out yesterday with the top up and found the road noise with the standard runflats very wearing.

To be honest it's about the same level of noise with mine.
 
Yes Iv'e got a set tucked up in my garage swapped them for Vred Ultrac Vorti's, keeping them in case I trade the Z4 in to BMW and the old story comes out about only accepting run flats.

It will depend on the tread pattern and road surface.
Generally I have found the standard tyres to be much quieter except on "racked-in" surface dressing.
Unfortunately that particular treatment is a favourite of our local Council.
However on normal hot rolled asphalt and dense bitumen surfaces, the non-RFTS are much quieter.
