Runflats Away!

So got rid of the run flats, on went some michelin pilot sports 2, both N3 marked in 265/40/18. Look much larger in the arches. Speedo now reads about right (it's slightly low as standard). Tyre noise is much reduced, but by far and away the biggest improvement is the ride and traction. Happy boy!

They do transform the ride  Those tyres are quite large, do they feel the same through the corners etc?

Getting rid of run flats was one of my favorite mods!

Any reason for going with 265/40's instead of the standard 255/35's?

they look like tractor tyres  why have you gone for 40's on the back? 35's are standard profile.

Well essentially they are the tyre off a Porsche boxster s, so they are not the normal pilot sport - they have the "N" marking, which the 255 don't have. Plus I wanted the slightly wider track the extra 10 mm gives. Mind you they do only just fit - there is less than a finger gap to the inner arch at the front. But the ride is absolutely transformed - they are so much softer than the run flats - partially due to the side wall height I suppose. I just took it out for a "test" and there is so much grip that it will take full throttle in first - even on a damp road. Cornering is even better - now the rear will keep gripping well beyond when the front starts to run wide under full throttle. They are a bit big tho... Was wondering what the general consensus is. Is it time to leave behind the skinny tyre look??

Wow - a 5.2% increase in size, translating to 33mm in diameter. Max recommended is normally 2.5%.
That will have real impact on performance of the Zed. Reduced acceleration in particular.

I got rid of my run flats yesterday ,I would not have believed the difference. They have made quiter and a lot more stable

Check your speedo against a GPS too. Changing the diameter is going to effect the speedo accuracy so make sure you know by how much. The chances are it will under read at low speed and be more accurate as the built in over read comes into play at higher speeds

Theoretically, it could be more economical too :)
