Run Flats or Not Run Flats that is the question!?

Ive seen a lot of comments about replacing the run flats with non run flats..
What do people think? I use my car day to day is it worth running the risk of getting a puncture?

I'm due a set of rears in about 1000 miles or so, just trying to weigh up the pros and cons.

Cheers

With 17" wheels it seems less jumpy then with larger wheels.

Tram lining with run-flats is noticeable. Changing to good run-flats has improved this immensely.

Hitting potholes with run flats on some 19" wheels can crack the metal as the shock is more transferred with the stronger side walls.

We are now using Continental sport contact 2 BMW approved if this is of any help

Had the same dilemma a year ago as bought our Z with worn out run flats and it steered and rode terrible (balence was way out as had been kerbed badly)ended up being persuaded by my tyre dealer to trust the original bmw set up and stick with runflats so fitted a new set of bridgestones (18 inch 108's'stripped & refurbed) And I have to say it steers fine, yes ride is hard but then it is a sports car so im fine with that. A year on 6000miles and it still steers fine although when pushing hard both hands are required. :driving:

I went for non runflats. The ride is unacceptable with them, and they are unsuitable for British roads, which are far from flat and smooth.

Changed to non runflats on both my Zeds and found, in each case, ride and tram-lining is improved. Tyres are also cheaper to replace. I carry a couple of cans of puncture repair and an electric air-pump.

Anyone know if runflat tyres have improved over the years?

:driving:

Non run flats.
Totally diff car once I changed. :driving:
Only had 1 regret after changing to non run fiats.. That was I didn't do it sooner!!!!
I carry a compresser, and a couple of cans of goo. Whole lot under £25.

I would echo what Sprint said above TBH
I have Pirelli P zero's on.
Only notice the hard ride on the side streets
Once on the open road, no problem - don't notice any road noise either.

Drive was so hard with run-flats, I have the feeling that all parasite noises I have inside the car are directly attributable to them.
So ditching them for normal tires (in my case 18" Goodyear assy F1) was the best decision for not only car's occupants but the integrity of the car itself!

Took my run flats off within weeks of buying the car because ride was unacceptable and in my view positively dangerous. Drove away from garage with F1's fitted and decided there and then to keep the car.

Get away from run flats. Got some Ultrac Sessantas and it's a different car now. Planted, no tramlining and tons more grip.

I have 18" wheels and love my run flats !!!! Wouldn't be without then ( it's pissing down and you get a puncture on the motorway ?????? ) I rest my case ! But then I am a drummer and love the "rhythm'" of tram lining and pot holes !! :driving:

No one singing the praises of Michelin's ZP run flats anymore on here :D

I switched my z4 to these and never looked back - ride was much more compliant and tramlining simply disappeared. some others also switched on here and found it greatly improved.

Non Run Flats for me as well. Took off 182 with RFs and put on 17" with NRFs. Driving transformed. 2 cans of inflator/sealer in the boot and breakdown cover in case it's a side wall problem (which would knacker the RF as well).

Car came with 16 inch wheels with run flats so treat her to new set of 18 inch wolfrace wheels with pirelli cincherato p7 s , car looks the biz and drive is smooth, quiet and plenty of grip... I found the run flats were trammy, noisy and unpredictable.
Go non run flats green gobo and compressor

Puncture fine. Sidewall damage or split or rim damage or anything else major, not fine, and no plan B. You need a new tyre.

Might as well carry tyre sealant on non-RFTs and run the same risk at half the tyre cost.

New car came with run flats and now has conti winter run flats. Drives like a dream so no need to go against the design criteria.
