Run flat tires

Looking into change the RFT to normal tires. (I have a z4 E86 3.0 sport)

Does the z4 M carry a compressor? If so what sort? And where is it stored in th car?
 
The BMW mobility kit is around £100

I think it's stored above the battery in the M.
 
Ring, do a decent little compressor for about £12 that fits next to the battery.
It's not going to be used every day hopefully.
 
I've been using the following pump for 2 years now which is currently £15-£17 on ebay. DRAPER 65958 12v MINI AIR COMPRESSOR TYRE INFLATOR WITH ANALOGUE GAUGE & TORCH. Having gone through so many of the cheaper (£10-£12) things offered in garages and cheapo stores which last about a dozen tyre top ups, this one is still going strong and has an on/off switch which is handy. I think if you go for a name make and spend £15-£30 it pays in the long run.
 
Why do you need a compressor in the Z? :?

Don't clutter up the boot [it's extra weight] keep one at home the same as me and check / re-pressure the tyres weekly.

If a tyre goes down whilst on a journey you'll either have time to re-inflate it later, or it's totally fcucked and needed replacing there and then. :o

Most folk who use non runflats carry a compressor and a can of gunk!
The ring compressor fits nicely under the boot tray so it doesn't clutter any boot space.

It certainly does and a can of gunk in the compartment on the port side (E89) compliments the compressor for those punctures at 23.00 on a wet February night when there's no mobile signal. :thumbsup:

This ^^^

Apparently the gunk goes out of date and needs replaced occassionally. Not checked the date on mine yet.

Currently £13 at Euro parts !
Only an analogue pressure gauge tho - but who's bothered about that?
 
I bought a compressor and joined the AA,

If I had got a flat, I'd have just called them, help SWF and let them fix it :D
 
I went for the slime kit, comes with gunk and a compressor really happy with the kit and it was a good price :)
 
If you have non runflat and get a puncture, what do the RAC etc do about it at 23.00 on a wet February night in the middle of nowhere?
Assuming there's a phone signal to contact them in the first place!

At least with a compressor and a can of gunk you have something of a fighting chance.

Perhaps I just like belt and braces.
 
Been a member of the AA for years but, if its a straightforward puncture I'd rather spend 10 minutes putting in the slime and re-inflating the tyre than an hour and a half waiting for a breakdown service. If it's a big tear then it's just gonna have to be a wait.
