Run-Flat or Normal Tyres - Ride Difference?

Had some work done on my 3 litre 2003 model Z4 at BMW yesterday, they advised that both rear tyres were very low, which they are. They advised me they cost £325 each; week!!

Now, question is. Years back when I had a Z4 the guy I bought it off told me that some people put regular tyres on them for a smoother more 'less bumpy' and more comfortable ride as they are not as hard as run-flats.

If I put regular tyres on, will the ride be softer, and is it legal, or will I have to buy a spare (say a space saver wheel) and stick that in the boot?

Just trying to avoid £325 per tyre; rip off.
 
what tyres you got on currently ?

but yes 325 even for runflats is a rip...

Some run-flats are better than others.. I swore by my michelin PS2 ZPs when I had the car.... much better than the stock bridgestones.

may threads about what to do with punctures should you have a puncture on normal tyres - some carry space savers, some tyre goo and compressors etc...
 
Just taken off Runflats for a set of Vredestein Sessantas , 18" £550 fitted.
I had one Bridgestone run flat near the limit, and decided better to buy whole set of normals instead of one Rft.
Bought a BMW goo/ compressor kit-in case of punctures.
The ride has been transformed - not so harsh, I don't feel as though the Z is trying to kill me anymore, feels much more poised, and no team lining !!
 
That's what I wanted to hear ASW28, I also feel like my Z nearly breaks my spine if I run over anything larger and harder than a ladybird. Even a pot hole 3 inches across and just 1cm deep feels like the car is about to break in half, my spine with it.

all this happens with the Michelin PS2 ZP tyre as well...

Continental cost £134 each inc fitting and vat. Front

Or:

Falken 452 £96 each inc fitting and vat front
Falken 452 £148 each inc fitting and vat rear

Falken made Goodyear apparently and are supposed to give good mileage.
 
If you do change, don't forget to tell your insurance co.
I was unsure before changing, but it really does make the car more stable. I think run flats and M suspension are fine on the smooth Autobahns, and race track, but in the pot holed reality of our local roads not such a good idea.
 
If I ask for BMW goo/ compressor kit at BMW dealer, will they look at my blankly or will they know what I mean, how much does it cost?
 
You should have no problems with your insurance co., I had no problems, neither did other forum members, from previous posts regarding tyre changing.
I got my compressor/ goo unit off E-Bay. Many people just have a can or two of Tyreweld stuff that sits in the boot next to the battery.
 
BMW goo kit cost £120. Steep for an aerosol can with glue in it. They do similar things at my local car shop for £15; what is the difference?
 
Is this it, and can you tell me what components it is supposed to come with, I understand they are 12volt, suggesting it needs to be powered by your car battery so does it come with leads?:

contains comp/goop/gloves, instructions - all in a small bag. The compressor is 12v, and comes with cig lighter plug.
The other option , is the Tyreweld route.
