Run flat going flat what should I do?

On the way to work this morning my run flat indicator came up on the dash. Got to work took a look couldn't see which one it was but did notice it pulling to the left a bit, so probably the left tyre. No worries I thought I've got tyre insurance cover against accidental damage or punctures through Inchape! Got home tonight and started reading through the claims gumph. Of course it’s not a simple as I had hoped. Firstly got to have 2mm of tread across all the tyre (probably haven’t) secondly your not supposed to drive it if its damaged already have, as well as other rules I probably voided the claim without even knowing it.

1 Has anyone else dealt with them?
2 If so did you manage to claim?
3 Shall I attempt to make a claim?
4 IF not do I just buy one run flat?
5 The Four tyres have now done 20000 miles shall I replace them all too standard tyres, if so which ones?
6 Where can I get them done near Coventry. Do I need to order them?
7 My next day off work is Saturday and I drive 50 mile round trip to work every day will they last that long if I just keep topping them up with air?

Any help with any of these questions would be great.
 
Cant see who your with, but yes I claimed on tyre insurance supplied by my supplying BMW dealer. My tyre was only 2 months old and had no problems, just had to pay and claim it all back with no excess.

Runflats shouldn't be repaired as you cant see what damage has been done so I don't see their argument, but how will they know you have run it flat anyway, just pump it up and hope it holds some pressure.

You really need to replace with identical tyre on the same axle to ensure correct handling.

You need to phone the insurance company though and they will advise how to claim and where to get the tyres fitted.
 
Was from Bmw whe I got the car. In their literature they say you have to keep the tyre for a month and they send out someone to inspect it to ensure that your not swindling them on a claim that shouldnt be.
 
That is different from what I had to do, all they can check against is the 2mm so you need to make your claim on that basis I would say.
 
If it's the BMW inchape, then it's easy, did one on the weekend. I know people hate them but kwik fit is the easiest as they have an account so you don't pay a thing, just turn up and sign a couple of things.

However, if you're tyres are marginal (2mm or less) then you don't qualify, which is kind of fair enough as they should be replaced anyway.
 
Jamie - sounds like an ideal opportunity to change to quality non RFTs and experience the true joy of Zed motoring on decent rubber. I changed to PS2s and the difference is amazing, there are numerous threads on here identifying many other makes so it perhaps boils down to personal choice and cost.

So went down National Tyres and met a fairly unhelpful fellow who clearly doesn’t like BMW owners. Couldn’t help me with a tyre and didn’t know anything about their account with Inchape. So it'll be kwick fit or an independent and I'll just claim back the money. Only helpful thing he did say was my fronts were at their limit. So thinking of replacing all 4 with standard tyres. So few questions a few of you maybe able to help me with which ones? On the forum it seems to come down to two.

One last thing are these readily available at a Garage or am I looking at having toorder them in?
 
Check with insurance, that they are happy to pay you and not the garage before you do anything.

tyres will probably need to be ordered esp Falken 452's

If your looking for just one potenza runflat I have one on ebay. Its got 5mm left on it, no nicks or repairs. Its on for £10.50p at the moment (Lots of watchers though!). It ends tomorrow and my seller tag is russellaltezza Item number - 170516435940. I live in Newcastle Under Lyme, so not too far.

Failing that - I swapped from RFT potenzas to normal R40A Potenzas. What a difference a tyre makes :D . I shopped around and got the 2 fronts for £136 each fitted.

In my humble opinion I would swap to normal tyre and buy a tin of Holts Tyreweld :)
 
Or remember the excellent ride you experienced in mine last week with firmer suspension and Vredsteins :D

As per the PM - Get a quote.. you might be surprised :)

When you say firmer suspension, what do you have fitted? Just that I was looking to lower mine 30mm with Eibachs but was concerned the ride may be compromised. :driving:
