Insurance won't pay out in that scenario. I know someone who drove their Mitsubishi L200 through a big puddle; water got into the air intake, smashed the turbo to pieces and blew his engine. Insurance refused liability as it was 'avoidable' and 'reckless'. Cost him £11k and struggled to get insurance afterwards.
