Ruby Black E86!

Hi all, after 6 years of daily driving E85s and lusting after the E86, I've finally bought one recently. Auto, Ruby black with champagne interior. As a result my cherished Tiefgruen E85 will be up for sale soon.

Done so far
Removed air scoop
Changed coil packs
Bled all calipers
Brake fluid change
New exhaust clamp to centre box
Replaced n/s rear light cluster and 3rd brake light
Replaced drivers door card
Painted calipers and front V brace
Swapped wheels and now on Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5s all round
Machine polished and ceramic coated
Halogens changed to LEDs
Had my trusted BMW indy give it the once-over and apart from a couple of minor oil leaks to monitor, he agrees it's in good nick

To do (on a budget)

New wheels will need a refurb.
Typical wear to driver's bolster

Will post more pics soon

Kind regards
Rick

To do (on a budget)
Put some of the foam back into sound generator pipe
Red front brace (sourced already)
Replace n/s rear light cluster and 3rd brake light (almost sourced)
Replace drivers door card (sourced already) as door armrest has split
Paint calipers
Wheels badly need a refurb. I'm not personally keen on the gold/copper look (although have had nothing but compliments), as its my daily. So am thinking of going for classic silver. Am also considering a dark bronze, but not enough examples to get a good idea of final finish or whether I'll like it.
Upgrade halogens as I'm driving more at night (advice appreciated)
Both keys could do with batteries being replaced (pointers appreciated)
Paint correction and ceramic coating
Change exhaust - Currently has a Scorpion exhaust, which I'm finding to be quite muted. I believe it's a full system. Would either like to swap for something else or return to stock and go from there (backbox delete or custom box)

Will post more pics soon

Kind regards
Rick

Lovely looking car! For me, it has to be BMW Hyper Silver on the wheels, and get rid of the M-badges :)

The m badges came off same day I bought it. :D
Agreed on the BMW Hyper Silver
Just trying to explore dark bronze options too

I went the other way, sold the E86 to get an E85. E86 I think it the prettier car but I do prefer open top motoring at the moment.

Very nice looking example, I like the wheels in bronze type colour, it suits it.

Whats wrong with the batteries in the keys? Are they literally dying even though you are driving the car? Have you tried the old electric toothbrush charger trick!

You have the same engine, so hope you're enjoying the convertible!

Re keys - Can't use the spare to lock/unlock with fob. Even with the main, have to be stood right next to the car for it to lock/unlock with the fob. Any further away and it doesn't wanna know.
Just googled the toothbrush charger ting. Will try tonight

Thanks Zedebee. I was thinking more something along the lines of this. Not the greatest pic, although no idea what you'd call this colour

A bit too dark for my liking personally. I think dark wheels on a black car are a no no.
Those style wheels in 19s and spaced out to the edges of the rims in hyper silver would look fantastic.

I viewed this car years ago, the wheels were silver at the time (better to my eyes)… I can’t remember why I didn’t buy it now, but the owner at the time seemed genuine enough.

Hope you enjoy it

Congratulations on buying your new car Rick.

Ruby Black looks fantastic when the light hits it right!

Thanks. I'm surprised you didn't go for it back then. As this used to be a previous forum car 2014 - 2016. Here's the build/blog thread - https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=72036&hilit=Air+filter
The forum member unfortunately hasn't been active for a while though.

Thanks Mr Tidy. Know exactly what you mean! The paintwork has sadly dulled over the years. I know a good local detailer who thinks he can help. Just trying to save up the pennies.

Yes Rick!!!

Glad you got it- well done, now get the green one a good home

Thanks Stuart. Really pleased with the purchase.

Just prepping the green machine for sale. I'd like to get the rear top mounts and a couple of small bits done (roof cable etc).

Here's the original forum members for sale thread. https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=87919

I'll obviously never achieve the original finish on the wheels (especially on my budget), but hopefully you can see why I'm keen on the silver

Have managed to tick a few things off the list.
Rear lights have now been replaced as is the driver's door card. Thanks to a couple of lovely chaps off the Facebook group

Had arranged to get the wheels refurbed but then realised one of the rears is cracked right next to a previous weld. Haven't been able to find a spare one anywhere, so ended up sourcing a different set. Sorted the random mishmash of standard and runflat tyres, so now we're running Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5s on all 4 corners.

Brake calipers and front brace painted and happy with the results. Will hopefully look into sorting the seats in a fortnight's time.

Had a right hoot in the wet this morning! More pics as promised..

That's a shame about your wheels but the new ones look great. And it must drive much better on a new set of matching tyres! :driving:

Changed the terrible Halogens for LEDs and so far so good.

Had a friendly local detailer machine polish and ceramic coat the car. Love the results!
