RS vs Z4MR

I have a customer who has both a Mk1 and a Mk2 RS, the Mk1 he has modified with turbo, injectors, remap, BBK etc whereas his Mk2 is std. He drives either/or daily - BUT he still slobbers over my Zed when it's parked outside the shop :D

Mike

That's because your Zed (any Zed) looks gorgeous next to a Focus. That alone will maintain a certain value as the cars age and become rarer. But as a brand RS is right up there in many car enthusiasts heads and that adds value, even when the cars ugly as sin.

As a previous owner of a Ford Focus ST I can tell you that the Focus is a very good car. If someone wants a rocket that can take you with safety from place A to B is ideal. All my friends and my girls have incredible memories from my FOCUS and everyone was saying that the car is a train or rails. With FOCUS I could do things that I can only imagine with my Z4 M. I would easily pay to rent the new RS and test-drive it.

I am not a excellent driver, so the M is something too exotic for me. I can not make the best out of the car and sometimes it scares the s**t out of me. I hate it on corners since I can not corner with the speeds I used to do with FOCUS. However the Z4 is another league. If someone wants something that thrills him, mething that will not be so predictable, something that is an eye candy and something special he should go for the Z4M in my opinion. I do not see however the FOCUS RS to become a future classic. The Focus RS 300 maybe.

The M badge is something that has been destroyed from BMW unfortunately for their marketing purposes.

Yes, the Z4M Roadster seems to be under appreciated among the press who are tipping the 'next big thing'. The Coupe is getting all the recommendations at present.

really dont know why.... the z4m platform is so good that in either roadster/ coupe the drive is identical.... this isn't like the z3 days of floppy chassis,

I'd have to respectfully disagree with that. I have a Z4MC and a friend has a Z4MR (that I found for him) and having the chance to compare both, same day, same road, results in a definite difference in handling feel in favour of the coupe.

PS - we have the Focus RS in Canada now at c. $50K. Think you need to be under 30 and like wearing a baseball cap backward to suit the car, but it does have impressive performance - brilliant for the niche it occupies. No choice for me - a small sedan has never appealed to me in the least (sorry, M3 owners).

I did the same back to back test and there is indeed a difference between the Z4M roadster and the Z4M coupe... Not a big difference, but a noticeable one.
Z3M roadster is a crap car in comparison with the Z3M coupe and I'm verry happy I never bought it.

I assume the last sentence is meant flippantly... The coupe styling agrees with my taste, but we aren't talking about aesthetics, just handling.

No, the difference isn't huge, at least not at the cornering speeds I felt were safe on the street, but I have a few decades of building my own race cars behind me, and it was certainly an easily perceived difference. I think that everyone would have to agree that when you double the torsional stiffness of chassis, it becomes a better platform for the suspension components; we can differ on whether that difference is important or perceptible to us. I also expect that to any normal street driver, the difference would be trivial.

I also chip in to agree that there IS a noticable driving difference between coupe and roadster. The roadsters are certainly not floppy, but the coupe is stiffer 'corner to corner'. It certainly feels it.

we are getting lost in the thread... some think its a big difference others dont... end , move on, merry xmas... in reality who cares, its all internet chat, now back to thread :-)

Not getting lost in any thread. Just agreeing as to why the M Coupe might be getting stronger bets on being a future classic. Roadster maybe too, but oddly it seems to be the opposite of the E type roadster v fixed head.

RS does seem to have a VERY strong following and afterall, it's that that makes an appreciating asset.

Very, very few coupes exceed the convertible prices as collectibles.

The Gullwing 300SL, the Cobra Daytona coupes (on rarity), and the 1963 split window Corvette. The Z3 coupe also exceeds the Z3 convert.

No I really mean this...when comparing the Z3M R with the Z3M C the difference is night and day... In comparison the Z3M R drives realy bad with a lot of body flex....to much in my opinion. The difference between de Z4M R and Z4M C is not that big and both drive great. But a coupe will mostly hold it's value higher then a convertible.... It seems the case with a lot of cars. Because a Z4M C was only available in 3.0 and M, the coupe shape is also way more exclusive to see on the roads then the Z4M R which was available for longer times and with more tax friendly engines.

Just caught the Vamps on the music channel. Gorgeous Ford Escort Mexico. That's one reason they are so popular for sure. 8)
